Re: Got dem ol leaky oil pump blues

Once again, this is based on recall (sold my old SE50 a couple years ago with a new pump in it and kept the old pump). But, as I remember, it was harder to start the longer it sat - but that could be said for most every scooter I own. I just got another SE50 and the pump is crusty - so I'd like to u...

Got dem ol leaky oil pump blues

I've seen this topic many times, but the solution is always a new pump. I've got a pump off an 87 SE50 which I would like to use but it does have a slow leak as I recall - daily riding no problem but after a few days sitting, starts to smoke. Best I can tell from perusing leaky oil pump threads, the...

Re: i need help please im lost:(

Hm-m-m, before you start buying parts or removing the intake, I would be curious as to how you see fuel coming out of the carb air intake. If you do not have an air cleaner with a good element attached, it will not run/idle correctly - are you holding your hand over the air intake to get it cranked?...

That is correct. Thanks all - encouraging feedback and suggestions to improve my odds - just what I wanted to hear.

I'll pick up some lapping compound today and try it out - thx Wheelman.

Is this cylinder toast?

Hi all, I am working on an 87 Elite SE50 engine. The piston was frozen in the cylinder - I got it out, and gave the cylinder an acid bath. At first examination, the inside looked great - a little honing and ready to go. But then I noticed some problem areas around the top. Now I am debating as to wh...

Re: Muffler cleaning

I've never seen a recommended interval either - not sure how often it is needed but I will say that I have roasted mufflers at around that mileage and they always seem to produce flame out the ends (indicating presence of oil deposits?) and they always seem to come out lighter. Not sure if performan...

Replacement for 87 SE50 piston

Hi all, I believe I read in here somewhere that a standard 88 SA50 piston will serve as a replacement for an 87 SE50. Apparently Honda no longer has the standard 87 SE50 piston but they do have the 88 SA50 piston and rings. The part numbers are different but the bore size is the same (41). Can anyon...

Re: stuck screws.

I don't have much to add except that I shared your frustration when I had my NA50 II (looked just like yours but almost mint). I decided I would replace the screws with bolts so I didn't mind buggering them up. I was able to use a flathead screwdriver and a hammer - get a small dent started in the s...

Re: Honda Urban Express Moped needs BOLTS

One option is Honda - look thru your favorite on-line Honda Dealer parts fiche and with a little patience, you can find most, if not all of those bolts (on average, about $0.60 each). If you have a good local dealer, they can usually get them overnight if not in stock. I believe it will also tell yo...

Re: Honda Aero 125

Sure sounds like it is idling based on the bystarter supply of fuel, then bystarter warms up, closes off, and idle circuit in carb is not sustaining the idle. Especially if it has to sit overnight to crank again (bystarter cools off and opens again) Hard to say for sure, but I would re-check/re-clea...

Re: Honda Aero 125

Double check with the service manual but that sounds right - service manual available here: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17085 There is an elaborate vacuum test in the manual but I've found that the simplest way to test is to connect the bystarter to a 12 volt battery, w...

Re: Is rust in gas tank that harmful???

There are some good articles on cleaning your tank in the Wikispreedia - if its not too bad you may get by just cleaning the filter under the petcock and possibly adding an in-line filter. Honda sells one for the 84 NH125 Aero that works nicely. I used the marbles and vinegar technique and it worked...

82 Urban Express front tire question

The standard size of the front tire is 2.25 x 16. I'm struggling trying to find a decent tire in that size.

Does anyone know if a 2.50 x 16 will fit properly with the front fender on?

Any other recommendations?

Re: Universal Carb? Manual Cable Choke? Express SR & Others

If you search this forum, you will find several posts about that thermal bystarter. Rather than changing the carb, you can convert the bystarter to a manual choke using a simple fuel on/off valve. Here's a link to a thread that includes info on how to do that with an Urban Express - I think it has t...
