Re: 84 Spree new noise

Great info on the threading - thx. Latest on belt - picked up un-notched 1/2" x 24 and 1/2" x 25 belts at NAPA today. Started to go for the Duralast 13250 but it was thinner and thought it would be even looser. The 24" had no prayer of going on - the 25 went on very tight. A quick tri...

Re: 84 Spree new noise

Well, entered 'Industrial Supply' into my trusty ATT Navigator GPS and got over a dozen hits - began calling down the list and the third call produced 'Grainger Industrial Supply' - less than 6 miles away - 3 in stock (AX24). Of course, it was too late to get there yesterday (Friday) and they are no...

Re: 84 Spree new noise

Well, got the cover off - used a strap wrench to hold the flywheel and clutch cover plate so I could remove the two pulleys. Measured the clutch shoes - within spec. Measured belt thickness - within spec. Cleaned everything off. Re-greased long spindle bearings. Used advice off this forum to hold re...

Re: 84 Spree new noise

Well, hopefully a belt replacement will do the trick. After reading thru some of the forums, sounds like a belt can be had without spending $30.00 at Honda dealer and waiting for shipment. But I am a little confused. I saw that the belt is an AX-24 with a reference to a string listing 'Auto Zone had...

84 Spree new noise

Argh, I'm working on an 84 Spree - no mods, just trying to get it running as is. Went thru the carb several times before finally getting the idle jet open - spent way too much time there. Then ended up putting in a new piston, rings, and honing cylinder to get rid of a little top-end chatter. This f...

Re: 84 Spree piston compatibility

Once again, thanks I hope you guys understand how much help you are to those of us who are unsure of ourselves. These little projects are a great deal of fun for me mainly because the frustration is mitigated by individuals like yourself who are willing to provide patient guidance. Part of the fun i...

Re: Broken piston!.....Fixable?

Hi all, sorry to barge in - I have ordered a newer domed piston for my 84 Spree - they no longer sell the dished one and I am under the impression that I will be able to use the domed version.

Should I expect that any other changes/adjustments will be needed?

Re: 84 Spree piston compatibility

I am taking this response to mean that the domed piston can be used without any other changes. In other words, I will not need to change out the head to allow for the domed piston.

84 Spree piston compatibility

Hi all, I am working on eliminating a rattling type noise that I am hoping is related to the top-end of an 84 Spree. Goot it running well, but a vibration, rattling noise was concerning me. I am replacing the rings, piston, wrist pin bearings, pin, and honing the cylinder although there is nothing sp...

Re: '84 Spree project - clattering noise

Thx, I have several 2-strokes which I pre-mix (Expresses, FA50, etc.) - I read in this forum that for Sprees, it was a better idea to use the pump because an oil-mixed fuel would possibly create a need for different jetting in the carb? If that is not a concern, I am more comfortable using pre-mix a...

'84 Spree project - clattering noise

Hi all, I've been reading through the forum to try and solve this one but could use a little advice on getting started. Bought an 84 Spree which did not run - pulled the engine and carb to clean. It cranks right up and runs well but I have a clattering noise which I have not encountered before. It s...

Re: Honda Spree gasket sealant needed?

Gotta love it, put it all back together and cranked right up. I had planned to disable the pump and run mixed but read somewhere that that was not a good idea for Sprees. So I put the pump back together and went through the bleeding process (that is when it cranked right up). These pumps really scar...

Honda Spree gasket sealant needed?

Hi all, Putting together an 84 Spree engine with new gaskets for the cylinder and head along with each side of the reed valve at the base of the manifold. I'm pretty sure no sealant would be used around the metal head gasket, but is it recommended that I use any type of sealant on the manifold or cy...
