Re: 44mm or 48mm BBK

For whatever it is worth. I never go into in this type of modification thinking it is a bolt on application. I think that is pretty foolish and will effect the end product. With the percentage of bore increase I think it is important to consider the effect it has on the total package and try to impr...

Re: E85?

When I converted my race car from gas to methanol we had to also had change the needle and seats to get rid of the rubber tip and also to ones that would flow more fuel. Also had to increase the fuel line sizes and a belt driven fuel pump for the same reason. In fact I just bought a 780 Holley that ...

Re: Iowa spree

The picture of the exhaust you posted is what I have seen on the 1984 Honda Spree's. Iowa or non-Iowa doesn't seem to matter. I have tried the 1984 exhaust on Spree projects I have done and I have always had better results with later model 1985 to 87 exhaust. If you do go that route I would not inst...

Re: spree gears.

84 gears are of a lower ratio than other years of spree. If I had used gears from an 86 the scooter would likely run even faster. I have went over all of this before but here is the run down again. I used new later model sb50 stock bore cylinder that I did some porting on. I also used sb50 reeds and...

Re: 48mm BBK "Thinking outside the box"

I am not sure why all the negativity. My last Spree project I got an honest 37mph with a stock bore with 1984 Spree gears. I wasn't disappointed in that. Now back in 1986 I crewed a car for an ARCA team and our Olds Cutlass went 199.8 mph. I must admit I was a little disappointed in that. It always ...

Re: Iowa spree

Another potential problem is that the Non Iowa exhaust you installed could be plugged up/dirty inside and needs to be cleaned. Several threads already here that outline different ways to clean it out. I prefer cooking on charcoal myself.

Re: 48mm BBK "Thinking outside the box"

To fastplastic I am installing the taller gear set and tires with a much larger roll out. Maybe some piston modifications or cylinder porting is would benifet to the 48 bbk run right and perform up to its potential. There is more to this game than just buying bolt on parts or swapping out motors. My...

I was hoping you would chime in Taz. Any insight or anything to share? What have folks been running into with the 48mm kit?

Re: 48mm BBK "Thinking outside the box"

After looking at this a little closer I wonder if a simple notch at the bottom of the piston skirt on the boost port side similar to the the notches that already exist in the piston that accommodate the schnuerle ports would work. I think that one thing to consider is that the piston 7mm larger and ...

48mm BBK "Thinking outside the box"

I am finally laying out all the parts for my 48mm spree. This project will all the goodies. Pipe, intake changes, modified reeds, gears, lightened clutch pals and Areache carb to name a few. I have a question for the most Performance Technical minded members on the board. I wondering about doing som...

Re: big bore kit

The pipe is not for a spree. It for a one of the lower end Yamaha scooters of about the same vintage as the spree. I am going to have to do some pretty easy minor mods to bolt it up. It is made by Proma Exhaust Systems and has TDS1121196 and PCM74420 S PI stamped on the mounting bracket. I have sear...

Re: big bore kit

After much delay I am getting ready to start on my 48mm BBK for my spree. I thought I might just join this discussion. I hope it is okay to field some questions here. This project BBK will have a 17.5mm Arreche carburetor (flange type) sb50 reeds, expansion chamber (Daywot came up for me). Of course...

Re: Aftermarket gears tough to turn

Double yes! Get a gasket or spend some time making one.

Hint to the suppliers of gear sets. The kits would be a better value if they included the gasket. At the very least include that information in the box you send the gears in.

Re: Removing the fan cover? Overheated the engine?

Easy folks. You are only stupid if you don't learn by your mistakes. No biggie! Good chance to work on the top end of a 2 stroke. A big bore kit is an option of course but you could also pick up a used piston and cylinder off of ebay pretty cheap. Then order a new set of rings and some new gaskets f...
