If the fuel shutoff is allowing fuel to run constantly, then it's obviously dirty (not closing properly) and could also be allowing fuel to seep into the intake port of the engine giving a rich mixture. (What should be vacuum). As for water intake to clean carbon deposits....ABSOLUTELY NOT. Water wo...

To start off, I can tell you what it's NOT - the reed valves. What it MAY be: 1. Air filter 2. Air inlet box cover plugged? 3. Choke assy not closing all the way when warmed up properly 4. If you are attaching the screw in the middle of the air cover, I had one (truly odd) that collapsed the inlet b...

What is 'air hungry' ?
Are you running rich or lean or what is the problem?

Not really. Premature wear on the belt and possibly the rear clutch. At 300 or so miles, I don't think you'll ever notice. A couple thousand miles at that weight could definitely wear things down, but I'm sure you don't have a problem.
Make sure everything is serviced well and enjoy the bike.

If you're absolutely SURE you cleaned the entire carb according to the posted procedures, that leaves the airbox and filter. Make sure it's a new filter (not an old cleaned one as they disintegrate with time). Also make sure the fuel shutoff valve is not sticking partially shut. That could starve th...

The idle jet is the tube you are describing. Just on the engine side from the main jet. Glad you heeded my advise on not using any sharp object to try to clean. A toothpick at the most. Compressed air is always best. Soak and air blast, repeat until cleaned out. That is definitely your problem.

The starter can usually be rebuilt. Patience and an understanding of electronics should do it. Especially if just turning slowly. The brushes are probably good, just needs tearing down and cleaned/rebuild.

The Japanese did a wonderful job of engineering. Unfortunately, the tolerances are so tight that it practiically eliminates any modifications. Bigger piston, exhaust or carb for instance is generally out of the question. Stick to stock and they can't be beat.

I've worked on MANY a Spree and have not seen a blown fuse yet. A LOT of corroded fuses and holders, but never a blown fuse. Corroded connections up the wahoo too. I ALWAYS solder the connection when replacing and also use dielectric grease on all connections. I've never made a repair that came back.

First of all, YES the cover needs to be on. With the throttle closed, the piston action creates enough vacuum to open the fuel valve. When cold, the choke circuit is allowing a LOT of fuel to enter for a rich gas mixture to start. With fuel in the bowl (Mikuni style carb) the vacuum is needed to pul...

Smoking when first running after a period of sitting is absolutely normal. This is an injection system. The gas pulls oil in with it and the two separate. The gas to the piston top and the oil to the bottom end to lubricate. After sitting, the oil in the bottom pools and settles in low areas. When t...

No matter how eager you are to get this bike running, download the repair manual from the FAQ link. If you already know the wiring is messed up, check it out first according to the wiring diagrams in the manual. Just putting juice to it and hearing humming/hissing sounds is NOT the way to get it goi...

Read the repair manual. There should be no need to swap parts with used or known good ones if you take a few minutes and properly troubleshoot the systems. A simple multimeter (Radio Shack $5) is all you need. By the sound of what this person is asking, the CDI unit may be the place to start and eve...

The FLYWHEEL (behind the fan) rotates CLOCKWISE
The pulley assy (left side of bike) rotates opposite (CCW)
