Anything over 100 and the bike is going to run just fine. Actually, at lower compression, they seem to run alright, just low on power.

Your symptoms call for a compression check.
Compression = power

While on the subject, let me interject that I have done many a 'ring only' job. One of my bikes I just got through doing this to. For a cost of less than $30, I replaced the rings, jug gasket and head gasket. (Dealer prices). Compression was 30 lbs before and 105 after. Simply pull the jug, stuff ra...

If the compression checks out to be alright, look closely at the carb. The choke assembly could be allowing too much gas when warm and that makes it hard to start. The key here is you stating that if the throttle is opened, it wants to start or tries to start. Too much gas when warm may be the only ...

Are you sure it's flooding (spit/sputter) or is it running lean (smooth but no power)? The main jet can cause a flooding condition, but if it's a #65 the nicks or whatever would have to be pretty big. As always, the use of a toothpick is the hardest material you ever want to use for cleaning the jet...

Mid afternoon, suuny day, bright sun tan weather.....it doesn't matter. The law is the law and it states the headlight will be on at all times when operating the scooter. I do show sympathy, however, as the exact same thing happened to me on my snowmobile. I was far away from anywhere that I could p...

One time, just ONE time in all the years I've been scooting, was I stopped by a cop. Actually three of us were out that day. Here's the scenario: The road is two lane, marked both center and outside white stripe. The road crews are out laying new blacktop. A road crew was standing there with a stop/...

You need to refer to the carb cleaning section. I've been over this a hundred times....you have to know the difference between running rich and running lean.

It sounds like you're running RICH.

Scope out the details, you'll see what I mean.

C'mon Vette, it's not that scary. You can get brushes from the dealer, but it's a lot cheaper to go to the hardware, find similar brushes and gring them down to fit. I've done it a number of times. Try the starter when it's removed from the engine before disassembly. If it doesn't work, what could i...

Increasing the compression may give you a temporary increase in compression (therefore power), but you'll wear the rings a LOT faster also. It's a real balancing act that the Honda engineers seem to have gotten right the first time. Why mess with success?
