Re: Need help getting 1985 honda spree running again
Just so you dont go down the wrong track, the battery has nothing to do with spark. These things can run fine with no battery if you have a kick starter. I know the 85s dont have them stock, but the premise is the same.

Re: fan shroud
I believe the fan that does not have a ring on the outside of the blades is 84-85, and the fan that does have the ring is 86-87. You have to match the fan to the shroud. I have noticed that they dont show them different on the Honda Microfiche, but they are indeed different. If you look around enoug...

Re: Which way to install cylinder gasket and head gasket.
The base gasket doesnt matter.. As long as the port indentations match that of the block you are fine.
The head gasket is supposed to have the groove up. Meaning that the "bump" should be touching the head, not the cylinder.

Good story. You better keep that thing locked up. Looks dangerous around there.

Re: Help identifying clicking noise
Right on thank you! Good timing I guess. We put the clutch bell on using a very low setting with an impact wrench (Don't yell at me). I will get a proper torque wrench and verify its at spec. It does not really seem like that could be the culprit, as I am pretty sure the whole assemby moves in and o...

Re: Help identifying clicking noise
Not sure about that noise, wish I could help. Sounds like a vibration though. On my 85 Spree, I have a slight clunking/clanking noise that seems to be coming from the rear (clutch/final drive area). Happens only in idle and its not consistent. Didnt find any evidence of something hitting the inside ...

Re: A little holiday work (pics)
Sure does, but what year does that crank case gasket go to? There is a difference between 84/85 and 86. I was able to find the correct one on ebay for $8. It wasn't that bad, I was just saying it so people knew not to try the dealer if they were doing the same.

Haha, maybe you can't see in the pic, but we took it down to the metal. The stock silver paint was no krylon, I assure you! I will post a better pic in the morning.

Re: cheap performance
I dont think its possible to hit 45MPH on a Spree with the stock engine and gears. About the only things you can do performance-wise is to get the 44mm or 48mm Big Bore Kit (BBK) that Taz sells on here (and eBay), and also get his gear set. Since the Spree is not variated like some of the other Scoo...

Re: 87 spree wont start
All good, Killer.. We all learn from each other. In this case, it could be many things, but I doubt the bystarter as its "normal" position is "choke on". You can always test the bystarter by taking it out and connecting it directly to the battery and see if it gets warm and the n...
