Re: 87 spree electric help

if the lights are on, seem bright, and turn signals work, can I not assume the battery is charged enough to at least try to turn the engine over? After trying to trickle charge the battery it still acts the same way. What am I looking for if I check the starter?

Re: 87 spree electric help

I tried a new starter relay, voltage rectifier, and the other black plastic thingie that's over by the battery. None of them fixed the problem. The other starter relay made a groaning type noise. I don't know what else to do then to try checking every wire, which I don't wanna do. Should I just try ...

87 spree electric help

battery is charged, headlight isn't working but the tail-light, brake light and signals work. When I push start there is a small click coming from that little square, rubber covered plug with 4 slots that is located next to the fuse for turn signals and lights. Spree has been running fine, my wife d...

Re: I've got a lonely nipple.

you said you drove the spree home. Does that mean you hauled it home or the spree is actually running and you rode it home?

Re: Carby return line?

like mousewheels said, you're fine without it. You might want to put a tube back on it in the future. Sometimes people open the float bowl drain to make sure gas is getting to the bowl, or to make sure there is fresh bowl in the gas. Yours will drain as is, but it will probably drip gas onto the spr...

Re: stripped carb bolt holes

the super glue/thread lock and skinny nuts on the back of the carb failed on me today. I guess I hit a bump too hard and then I had to push it home. Sooo, bigger bolts and tapping is in order.

Re: can't get the throttle cable/main needle re-installed proper

I am having a tough time getting the idle set, if I set it when it's warmed up then it's too low to start the spree when it's cold and if I set it when the spree is cold it's too fast and spins the rear wheel like mad when it's on its stand.

Re: removing restrictor inside the muffler

the cone of carbon isn't in the muffler though, it's in the part attached to the engine, that's why I can't get a real good look at it because of the frame being in the way. I did take it back off and tried some carb cleaner plus a screw driver to scrape but it felt like metal to me and I know what ...

Re: can't get the throttle cable/main needle re-installed proper

now that there is more oil in it, the light flickers and goes out when taking off so maybe if I fill it up it will stay out. I'll check the float and see if I can make the light go out manually, on some other date, I'm through with sprees for the day.

Re: removing restrictor inside the muffler

thank you, next time I take the muffler off I'll see if I can get some of that carbon out of there. I didn't see any kind of restrictor in the head of the muffler though, maybe it's been removed already. Is my spree possibly staying under 25 mph because I've been pre-mixing gas un-wittingly while my...

Re: can't get the throttle cable/main needle re-installed proper

I guess the oil pump does work, I removed the tube that connects to the carb and oil slowly but steadily came out of it. So, I guess I should feel safe to run straight gasoline in it so long as I keep oil in the oil tank. The oil light does seem to stay on though.

Re: can't get the throttle cable/main needle re-installed proper

the oil pump is still attached but I have questions about whether it works or not. Regardless I make sure to keep a little oil in it, even though I'm pre-mixing the fuel, just in case. I did check the oil screen today and it didn't look clogged. I cleaned it and re-installed it. If I just unhooked t...

Re: removing restrictor inside the muffler

I have an Iowa spree that tops out in the low 20s with me on it (175lbs) and around 26 with my wife. I took the muffler off while ago to see the restrictor but I'm not sure I know what you guys are talking about. There is a washer type piece that allows the muffler pipe to form a seal with the flang...
