Adjustable Starter limit switch?
I just 'inherited' a '97 Elite CH 80 w/ 49 original miles . Spent most of it's life in a garage, but it's not primo - some cosmetic damage riding on the back of an RV. New battery, plug, fuel, added a fuel filter, new air filter and cleaned the carb (probably not as well as Bear would recommend :win...

Re: Honda spree engine swap?
Hi, Post is getting stale, but wanted to ask those in the know if this true from this POST : You can use a motor off of an 87 elite s, 86-87 aero 50, or 89-01 elite 50 and you should be doing at least 40. Make sure the engine is stamped either AFO5 or AF16 and has a 4 bolt intake... And from this PO...

Re: '84 Spree-Starts, runs, dies - carb just cleaned by pro
Bear will eat me for lunch! Or worse, just ignore my future posts. We had the flipping Vac/fuel lines reversed from the petcock to the carb/Intake! No, I don't know how we overlooked it either. (And you didn't catch my hint: "...lined out.." ) But that explains why the fuel was endi...

Re: '84 Spree-Starts, runs, dies - carb just cleaned by pro
Wanted to say THANKS to all that responded. It's running properly...hopefully for the summer @ least.
I'm not going to say what obvious thing we overlooked , but reading the manual for the 3rd time lined out the error of our ways.
I appreciate the help!

84-85 Petcocks-with or w/out Fuel Strainer? (new one needed)
Looking online new OEM look like this: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zkWFmm2IaE8/TefkS9pTncI/AAAAAAAACFc/4Phkin85LZ4/spree%252520PC.jpg The 2 non-functional ones I have look like this - no fuel strainer or other items sticking out of it: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Dcx57g_Xjhc/TefkvSJHhT...

Your carb is flooding over. Do it again. Understood. Not 113 but 114 PSI is minimum in the manual. Looks like Honda's proof-reader didn't proof..... From the Wikispredia Service Manual for the '84-87 Spree: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vfJU_WS03vU/TefU-yRGImI/AAAAAAAACFQ/3IGSQPMiSpw/s576/Spre...

Re: '84 Spree-Starts, runs, dies - carb just cleaned by pro
It actually started RIGHT UP last nite...then promptly quit. If I cranked it repeatedly (a few seconds @ a time) it would eventually start/stop. If I held the throttle open, it would run a little longer then die. A lot of gas comes out exhaust and ends up on the floor after these episodes. This is w...

Re: '84 Spree-Starts, runs, dies - carb just cleaned by pro
So....got a 2nd carb from the original 'pro' and soaked the petcock for the last 2 weeks. Also, a working bystarter from 'Trafficjamz' - Thanks. It doesn't start/run thru the petcock. But does run from the 'test tank' for a few seconds and dies. If I hold the throttle open - 1/2 to 3/4 - it'll run, ...

Re: '84 Spree-Starts, runs, dies - carb just cleaned by pro
Thanks for the ideas. Update: Made up a test gas tank as described and gas is getting to the carb AND flooding the engine. Enough gas in the cyl. to hydro lock it. Remove the plug and turn it over and gas come spewing out and plug is wet. Shouldn't the float stop the flow of fuel? Soaking petcock as...

We have the airbox, but need a better airfilter. Just a piece of foam in there now.noiseguy wrote:Sounds more like a missing aircleaner or airbox. Have those?

Thanks, but the tank appears clean and we can easily suck gas into the carb.Trafficjamz wrote:My guess = Rust in the gas tank clogging the filter.

Bringing Spree back to life; neglected for years. -New battery -New spark plug (have spark) Before Carb Rebuild: -Turn on key -Oil light is lit up -Suck fuel into carb via the vac tube -Start after 5-6 tries -Throttle unresponsive - doesn't alter RPM and doesn't return to stop -Run for 10 secs and d...

Re: Spree - back from the dead.
^Thanks. Made some progress - we tried a direct wire to the starter and it turned over! The starter switch wire was loose so we fixed that and can now get it crank...... But no gas getting to the carb. I sprayed in some starter fluid and it ran for a few seconds, but still no gas in the carb (tried ...
