Re: 87 Honda Elite 50 "IOWA" starts, but bogs out

I tried to clean what I anticipated would be a vertical hole, but the wire wouldn't push through. Is there a vertical hole from the head to the bottom of the tube? Hello search the forum archives for "pin * o light" threads started fine ran great then will not restart & 1986 = 24 Year...

Re: '87 Elite 80--bystarter performance

Hello. actually the by-starter when cold is retracted which allows the enrichment system to flow more fuel/air when cold. Once the by-starter warms and extends it closes of the enrichment holes in the carb. There is a great write up by mousewheels in the wiki technical section that explains the oper...

Re: '87 Elite 80--bystarter performance

Hello. No movement with key on. the power is only supplied with engine running. Hook the by-starter leads to a 12 volt battery, measure the length before hookup and then about 5min. later check again.

Re: Edited: New thread but someone please help! 85 spree

This has much more of a fuel/air mix, and spark plug ignition of that mix, feel to it. probably, but poor compression can come from bad reeds,(proper fuel/air entering at the right time into cyl) leaking reeds could be allowing flooding. A compression test wouldn't hurt at this point since he says ...

Re: Edited: New thread but someone please help! 85 spree

Hello. Assuming your carb is clean, then you have passed the first test in the troubleshooting section of the service manual under Engine does not start or is hard to start. 2nd step apparently also passes. Spark test 3rd step is. Test compression. With a gauge at wot while cranking. If comp. is low...

Re: Compression Tester

Tried starter fluid just to see if that would help and no dice![/quote Never starting fluid, not a good idea. Which compression tester do you guys use? I always see a link to one from harbor freight, when that question is asked. Look in the wikispreedia on testing by-starter also do a search for te...

Re: Help with de-restricting a honda elites 95

Hello; again, some people use and impact wrench for removal but shouldn't be used for installing due to possibility of hurting the crank. A strap wrench to hold it can be used as well, for removal and installation.

Re: 1987 spree idles rough when cold only

Then turn the key on and wait 5 minutes. The brass needle should extend about 1/8" or 3mm after 3 minutes. If it's not moving, check the wiring for 12 volts. If there's 12 volts, then the choke is dead, and you need to replace the choke. the by-starter is supplied with power only when the engi...

Re: Help with de-restricting a honda elites 95

Hello: The cover has a paper gasket between it and the case, also two alignment dowel pins. Over time things stick together very well and need a firm gentle hand to separate them. There are a few tabs on the cover that stick up higher than the case. The one above where the starter mounts can be acce...

Ouch that really hurts. you might be able to get a local elect. motor shop to rewind it but would probably be cheaper to get a used one off of ebay or from the forums for sale section. good luck

Re: Not enough vacuum

Hello. Is the filter inside the tank clean? or petcock diaphram could be dried out or gunked up. the vacuum pump probably pulls more vacuum than the engine. Have read of some here on the forum that have soaked the petcock in something( cant remember what exactly) and it works after. use the search f...
