Hello: there is a slot that runs the full length of the slide, inside of the carb is a small pin that protrudes out. the slot fits over that pin. allows the slide to set all the to the bottom of the hole.

you can get an extension for the trailtec from www.treatland.tv there cheap and made for the trailtec gauge so extra wire shouldn't change readings, at least not by much. Have one on mine with ext. works great.

Hello Wd-40 is flammable you know. I've used it to prime lawnmowers to get them to start. It's possible with that sprayed on the filter it's way to rich to (flooded ) to keep running.
