Had a similar issue with my 85 spree dying when I would hit bumps. Adjusting the float level seemed to help as now it will only die if I hit a big bump. Does it have a vacuum petcock? If so maybe there is a leak in the diaphragm allowing gas to run down the vacuum hose into the intake manifold.

You would be better off with a CV carb this big. CV carb? :confused: would a 28mm carb help? A CV carb has a normal throttle valve, but the slide is controlled by the a vacuum diaphragm.
