Re: Wanted: Travel Cover for Spree
I am looking for a recommendation on a travel cover for my 86 Spree. The Spree will be on a Versahaul hitch carrier on the back of a motorhome and I need one that fits over the Spree and the milk crate that is attached to the rear carrier frame on the Spree. It also needs to be waterproof (or at le...

Re: Extra key
Well, if you have a key already, I got mine cut at the local hardware store. I just got lucky and they had the key. However, I had to slightly modify the keys to get them to work in the seat lock, you may not have this problem with yours. But I had to use a dremel and grind down about 1/16 of an inc...

Try the same thing with the relay wiring harness.

Re: My '85 Spree Only Hits 20
There is no such thing as running after 20 years in storage. It takes work to make them run after that long. Up to two years maybe, but 20? Never happen. Should've been more clear. The previous owner took it to a bike shop and they got it running. I would be amazed if it fired up after 20 years wit...

Re: picked up a spree "special"
I was looking for one of those before I bought my '85. I had no luck. Two came up, but both had no titles. Here in IL it is illegal to buy any vehicle without a title, plus I wanted a street runner, so both times I tried to track down the last registered owners, thanks to a buddy at the DMV, but cam...

Re: My '85 Spree Only Hits 20
Needle on the float is stuck open. Pull carb and clean the crap out of it. Okay. I'll try that, but can you think of anything else? Just curious because I've had it apart about 3 times. I'm probably gonna run to the auto parts store and get a can of carb cleaner and just let it soak overnight. IDK ...

My '85 Spree Only Hits 20
I just put in a new oil pump because the old one pumped in too much. I just did a top speed run, and I couldn't get past 20. New CDI and coil because the last one crapped out. While I was driving, the motor would kind of "surge," the RPM's would kick up and push me forward a little, then c...

Re: 1985 Spree... Timing issue?
So - I replaced the CDI and coil and had no luck . What next the stator ? The new CDI has a LED that should light every time it fires . No light but still has a weak spark . Has anyone else ever had to replace a stator ? Okay. Maybe your flywheel magnet has gotten weak. Stick something to it and ma...

Re: '86 Spree electric start problem
Your main starter relay could've died. Do you hear any clicking when you push the start button? If not, grab a pair of leather gloves and needle nose pliers. Remove the right side rear cover and look for an "Omron" relay. Remove the wiring harness. Put on the leather gloves (Or just use a ...

Re: 1985 Spree... Timing issue?
That is a classic timing issue. I'm with mouse, flywheel key would be my first guess and if that it good, a bad CDI could cause this. Definitely NOT a starter issue, Key was intact. I ordered a new CDI. why would a bent flywheel key make it stumble like that? And why would having the kill switch on...

Re: 1985 Spree... Timing issue?
I removed the flywheel last week and the key was fine. I ordered a CDI.Trafficjamz wrote:flywheel keys almost never fail, if the flywheel has never been removed.
Get the proper tool to remove the flywheel, or else you will most likely damage the stator or the crank.

Re: 1985 Spree... Timing issue?
BMX - I hope you find the problem soon because I picked up a1985 Spree with the exact same problems !!!! So here is a Question for the experts ? I can see a mark on the flywheel and when it lines up with a ridge on the case - that's top dead center . If you have the spark plug out - hooked to the c...
