Re: Speed up SE50P?

OK, thanks for that info. I was hoping the washer in the muffler was the only difference, but if the header is different I'm not gonna be able to drill out the washer and run the same carb jet as the unrestricted model and expect the same performance. I guess I would have to drill out the washer and...

Re: Speed up SE50P?

Yah, I'm still confused about the jets, 'cause the wiki says the non-restricted and restricted SE50 both have the #85 jet (with the IOWA restricted model being the only one with the smaller #82 jet). So it would seem the muffler would be the part that is restricting things. I just read something tha...

Re: Speed up SE50P?

I have the manual for the restricted SE50P and it tells me about the restricted jets, I want to know what jets to use to make this scooter un-restricted..... I guess I should look for the manual for the un-restricted model of the scooter and see what it says about jets. I had just thought somebody h...

Re: Speed up SE50P?

I'm thinking that is the jet I already have? When I look at the wiki on derestricting the SE50P it shows the "SE50 A" as the resrticted model, and "AA" as the super restricted Iowa model. The chart shows the #82 jet as the super restricted jet while the non-restricted and restric...

Re: Speed up SE50P?

OK, thanks for your reply. I have searched through the forum and found some info but in long threads that seem to be a process of discovery themselves. At this point I am seeking to do the mods to the engine to de-restrict it (having already changed the tire and variator). I found a thread showing h...

Speed up SE50P?

Hello, I have a SE50P that came with the contents of my garage when I purchased the house, I was told "I rode the he!! out of it in college until to motor seized". I got it running a couple years ago after sitting in my garage (without a spark plug!) for over a decade. After fixing the kic...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

UPDATE: I've made some progress toward getting the speed I am looking for out of my Elite50 (restricted SE50P), here's what I've done.... The first thing I did was replace the rear tire with a Pirelli SL-26 90/90J-10, which is a bit larger than the stock tire. This got my speed up from around 27-28M...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

At any rate, I drill the jets for my motorized bicycle, I have the proper drill set, it's always worked out well for me. DON'T DRILL is good advice. Once you've drilled your jet, there's no turning back. Jets are cheap from any motorcycle shop, and you need several sizes to tune a 2-stroke machine....

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

A jet from honda is $5 or less. DO NOT DRILL. yah, but shipping is probably more than the jet, or gas to drive to some honda shop. I just bought the 90/90 rear Pirelli tire and tube, cheap yet more than I wanted to spend, it is a safety issue so my money went in that direction. At any rate, I drill...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

Perhaps I have a misconception here... I assumed if I run the motor stock, at stock RPMs as I am now, and change to a non-restricted variator the motor should be OK? The variator would allow the belt to ride higher on the pulley and thus propel me faster with the same RPM from the engine? If I don't...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

Well, the ebay seller was gracious enough to allow me to cancel the order for the Polini ramp plate (during a phone call where he tried to up sell me from $50 to $100, for me $50 was already too much for the plate and rollers) So it's back to the drawing board I guess... To recap, I have a fully sto...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

Those look like tuning rollers, I wouldn't run them long term. If his offer is still open, you could sell the Polini ramp at a discount and get the free SA50 ramp. SEF ramps usually sell for $15. I think Daytona ramps are $25. That is the only Polini ramp I've seen sold individually so I guess they...

Re: '87 Elite 50 (SE50P) top speed?

I did not see your wtb ad, I would have given you a ss50 ramp plate. LMK how the polini plate works out for you. NOW you tell me! LOL I had been looking for a ramp plate, posted this new thread, chimed in on one other thread where someone had achieved the results I am after with the same exact scoo...

Re: derestricting a 1987 elite se50p

The se50p exhaust needs replaced. The head pipe is the restriction, not a washer at the head. I never planned on doing any mods to my motor (pretty sure I said that already), I just want to eliminate the restrictions imposed by the SE50P ramp plate. I just want to be able to get past this 27MPH lim...

Re: derestricting a 1987 elite se50p

I've been kinda frustrated looking for info on what parts will work on my bike to derestrict it, I did post a WTB but didn't get any serious bites. I ended up buying a Polini ramp plate for an unrestricted SE50 on ebay last night, it was brand new and came with 3 new sets of rollers for $50. I had h...
