Re: '85 Spree still doesn't want to start

I have a Metropolitan and I am a previous Spree owner. The upgrade was a palpable improvement, to say the least. I loved the Spree, but the Metropolitan was a fantastic, overdue upgrade. I love the storage (under seat and trunk), fuel capacity (1.3 gal), lower center of gravity, bigger tires, slight...

Re: 86 Sprees dying and not restarting after short rides

Good suggestions so far from the others. My .02: -Try taking the gas cap off when it stalls out. Maybe the cap breather is clogged and wont allow fuel to exit the tank to refill the carb. -Could be a clogged idle circuit and running initially off of the bystarter mixture until warm, but partially cr...

Re: 1984 Honda aero, running issues...

A properly sealed, properly filtered, stock airbox is my recommendation for it. Each cone filter will likely provide a different intake and resistance so 1-size-fits-all jetting likely wont work for it. It might cost you $30-50 but my Aero 80 and Spree were super touchy with anything other than the ...

Re: Gas pouring out of carb

Basically, if your spree is just sitting on its stand not running or anything and you try pouring fuel into the tank and fuel starts pouring onto the ground, then its your petcock AND your carb float mechanism failing. However, if your piston is moving (running or not) before any leakage occurs then...

Insurance on a Moped in Michigan?

I recently purchased a beautiful, Monza red '09 Honda Metropolitan and will be visiting the SoS tomorrow to complete the title change-over and get the registration sticker for it. I paid a lot for it and would like to protect my investment. I know a moped has its own insurance that comes with the re...

Re: Honda spree starter VIDEO

Funny you mention the starter gear. It was originaly a smooth gear ( no bumps for kick start. ) I put it on there because I knew my original gear would not work. When I went to place the new cover ( kick start assembaly ) the starters were in diffrent positions not allowing the plate to line up! So...

Re: Honda spree starter VIDEO

Hard to say. Sometimes the inner spring in the electric starter clutch can rust out and break. That will keep it from returning, but I don't think that is what is happening in your case. Since the problem began when you put a new belt on, I would suggest you check for 2 things. 1. The belt could be ...

Re: Michigan moped laws changed (Aero 80cc now a moped?)

Well, I am back from the SoS with my newly purchased '83 Honda Aero 80 now registered as a moped. The process was NOT smooth, however. Everything seemed fine until I got to the part where I was standing there at the counter saying "I would like to transfer the title and register my moped."...

Michigan moped laws changed (Aero 80cc now a moped?)

Hey guys! I would first like to update everybody on here who isn't already aware that Michigan law regarding requirements for moped classification have been changed. I believe it was changed January 1st of 2013 but it was at least somewhere near that date. Previously, the law stated that it had to b...

Crack or leak in intake manifold? Is it running differently now that you have the air sound?

Re: paint job

From what I have read about painting moped plastic, it is best to spend like $50-100 in supplies to get the job done right. I think by just using a few coats of spray paint you end up with a lumpy, chipping paint job that looks and feels tacky. However, I have heard from several sources that a solid...

Re: Is my spark plug in expected condition after 300 miles?

Update: I ordered a new seal and petcock. I'm back on the road at 31 mph running smooth as butter. I am quite surprised and satisfied how it turned out. The only issue I have ran into now is too much torque on takeoff. When I WOT from a stop it torques my drifeshaft nut right off of the bike, probab...
