Hello again Pat. One quick question: in poking around the internet, I found another cause of recurring flooding problems is a plugged muffler. Could this be an issue? As I said earlier, when this thing started it smoked to beat * for a long time.

Hello Pat, After doing the reed cleaning and flip I still couldn't start it. I pulled the plug, and remembered back to my outboard days that some plugs will foul, but will still appear to spark, so I ran and got 2 new ones.
