Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
I actually haven't had a chance to install the 9:1 gears yet. I've been able to cruise pretty well at that 40-45mph range so I've been happy just riding it. I actually just shot Taz a note and asked about his 50mm kit. I was thinking of doing the same thing and tackling it all at once. I haven't bee...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Bfowler is exactly right. And Taz is great to work with and i will continue to purchase from him. I also got my #85 Main Jet from partzilla.com Good luck! Mine has been running so well that I haven't even put the 9:1 gears in yet. I'm still not sure i want to give up a ton of acceleration. I'm alrea...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Update 4/22 My package from Taz arrived on Saturday! Thanks again Taz! I had some time to get the variator/ramp plate installed saturday night and I had a chance to ride it around yesterday. Well the good news is it's now up to 43 mph confirmed via GPS. That's on a flat with no tucking or any of tha...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Thanks everyone for the advice and input! The parts from Taz should be here soon so ill post after I get them installed. One more question: What size aftermarket kick starter will fit the elite? I'm just looking for the lever and didn't want to spend a ton because I may never use it. I saw these lin...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Update 4/14: I had a chance to finally get it out and ride yesterday after upjetting the carb and knocking out the 2nd air box tab. Unfortunately it still has the exact same top speed of ~35mph. I bought a long drill bit and plan to drill a couple holes through the baffles in the exhaust. USPS lost ...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
So it's okay if that hole is open?
I looked at the throttle grip when I had the plastic off. Can I make the adjustment without removing it again? I checked the service manual but it just gives a free play spec of 2-6 mm and doesn't show how to do it.

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
4/8/2013 Update: I finally had a chance to tear into the carb and replace my #68 main jet with a #85. I also punched out the 2nd tab in the air cleaner box. My parts from Taz seem to have gotten held up somewhere with USPS so we are working on sorting that out. It's raining here so I haven't had a c...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
47 with just a variator. Wow!
Well it's parked for now and my parts come in next week. I'll return with an update once I get a chance to install them.

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
I am assuming they are the stock rollers but they are in good shape with no flats and with 4500 miles on the scooter they can't be the original. I'll measure next time I have the variator off.

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Thanks bfowler! I definitely won't run it until the new jet is in. Hopefully that will be arriving Saturday or early next week. I'll probably be installing the #85 jet and speed variator at the same time to see what that does for me. The variator does come with a ramp plate so hopefully it is steepe...

My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph
Hi All - First off I wanted to say this site is a wonderful resource! I've been reading for hours every day. I just picked up a 2000 Elite S last week. It has 4500 miles on it but the previous owner went through the engine and replaced rings, seals & gaskets. The carb was cleaned and it has a ne...
