Well i did a compression test and it was 160 hot which i think is very good i also took the flywheel off but it was clean under it so i put it back on with an impact gun and i think that the previous owner of the 1986 engine put heavier clutch weight in it because it takes more revs to get it moving...

1986 spree rubbing noise and not alot of power
So i just fit my 1986 spree engine into my 1984 frame hooked up all the wires but there was one green wire that was coming from the generator but it still runs without that wire being hooked up but my problem is that the engine made a rubbing noise that sounded like it was coming from the generator ...

yes i figured it out and it runs but it makes a rubbing noise it is coming from the alternator area and also it the you have to rev it more then usual to get the wheel spinning i changed the belt with a good one of my 1984 and i looked at the clutch it looks brand new i have no idea what it is i rem...

I also have a new plug that i put on a week ago and took it out once when it was new i decided to go fo a high speed run and then pulled the plug and the ceramic part was black but not wet or oily it was dry if that helps.

There are different thread pitches also i believe its a fine thread but it could also be extra fine so i would buy both so you don't have to run back to the hardware store because there cheap.

That surge that your talking about is not because its getting more gas it surging because its leaning out and not getting enough gas its called a lean surge so i would take aparts the carb and clean it good it sounds like the float valve is sticking.

Hmm it sounds like you not getting enough gas i would clean the carb out good also check to see if the fuel petcock is working properly. when you say it wont restart for a couple minuets that sounds like the carb is filling up with enough gas to let it run for a few seconds so the float valve in the...
