Re: Best Bang for the Buck, the mods begin

This was in a post from Taz "K first thing is you need to remove the restrictors. 1st restrictor is to remove the muffler and look at the end of the muffler that hooks up to the engine. You will see a washer that has a small hole. You need to remove that. You can use a drill and a dremel to do ...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck, the mods begin

The batteries are dead on my camera and right now I can't find the charger. But I will post pics later and show that with the above mods and finishing the exhaust I went from 22 mph uphill to 30. Cruises consistently at 32 the top speed was 26 before and hills were a real killer. Now I only notice a...

Best Bang for the Buck, the mods begin

I am a total noobie to scooters, but I have ridden motorcycles for years. I found this TERRIFIC site just after I bought my scooter. Picked up this 2001 from a motorcycle ridin buddy for $500 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/alexintenn/Scooter/DSCF1152.jpg in 12 years????? http://i616.photob...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Here is the article from the links posted on this site http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Oil_Pump,_Elite_S_vs._SR After reading the Sticky here that also goes into the difference in premix and oil pumps and how it affects an engine with CLOSED throttle and running on a long down hill I bel...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Thanks man. I'm trying to change one thing at a time. So I'm doing the engine mods first. I finished putting my Bandit back together tonight so I plan to work on the scooter tomorrow. I'll leave the oil pump in for now.

I'm going to take pics of the speedo before and after !!

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

I hope this discussion continues. I talked to the mechanic at the local Honda shop today and he recommended using about 1/4 as much oil as usual and keeping the stock pump connected. He told me that 1/2 as much wouldn't hurt but might smoke excessively. But he also told me that just disconnecting oi...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Pat I had considered something like that. If I can judge about where on the fuel gauge that I need to add 1/2 gallon of gas I should be able to keep a small bottle of oil that would be the correct amount. OK guys I need some more help. What is the correct mix for a two stroke? Remember I'm a 4 strok...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Yeah the main jet on a the SA50 (non P) is a 78. So that's a big jump from a 68 for the "P" version. With the air box opened and the exhaust opened some I guess an 85 might work. Guess I'll find out. Going to the Honda shop tomorrow to get an order in. I really don't know a lot about the o...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Actually I am still trying to figure out the jet size . If a 68 is stock, from my 4 cycle experience an 85 seems like a BIG jump.

What would y'all recommend for an engine that is stock except having the de reg mods that we are talking about here?

Thanks again

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Sorry for making you repeat. I'm just making sure I understand what to do. This is a pretty nice lil scooter and I don't want to mess anything up. I guess I'll forget about the exhaust. They look and sound pretty cool tho. I still want to try to get some good suggestions on the oil system. I know th...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

Yes I AM :newb: lol but I'm catching on! I've done a lot of research and saved a lot of notes. Today I went down to the DMV and applied for a title. The original owner rode the bike at their lake house in Alabama and never titled it. But I did have the original paperwork from when it was purchased. ...

Re: Best Bang for the Buck?

THANKS Paul !!! Would it be OK if I get back to you when I start on these mods? It looks like this is exactly what I need to do to make my lil scoot more useful.
