Re: 1986 Spree Is Racing & I Cannot Adjust The Idle Speed

All, My wife and I sold her '86 Spree. The guy who bought it is a mechanical engineer and confirmed an air leak which he is able to fix for $190 worth of parts and his ability to install them. We have purchased a 2011 Yamaha Vino and so are signing off this forum. Thanks for all the guidance you all...

Re: 1986 Spree Is Racing & I Cannot Adjust The Idle Speed

All, thanks for your input. First, I did have the barrel bassackwards and have squared that away. It is flush and secure. It is still idling very high and the throttle is working (i.e. twisting it yields more power) so I am betting it's an air leak. Thanks for that. I may tear it down or just sell a...

1986 Spree Is Racing & I Cannot Adjust The Idle Speed

You guys have helped me out in the past and I appreciate it. Current issue is that our 1986 Spree NQ50 is racing and I cannot turn the idle speed down. I pulled the barrel slide and reinserted it after hitting it with carb cleaner. Still racing. I believe the short notch on the barrel fits on the ni...

Thanks, again, all. Much appreciated. I think I'll start with my bud who is an electrician and has all the toys.

Re: Lowbeam and Highbeam Both Out On '86 - Easy To Change Bu

Thanks, folks for your responses. Sounds like it will be some work, more than just a bulb replacement (which I figured b/c both appeared to go simultaneously and that would be too coincidental to be a bulb issue). It is an '86 Spree NQ50. I did not realize I should have included the latter designati...

Lowbeam and Highbeam Both Out On '86 - Easy To Change Bulbs?

Hi, I will do the research but it would be great if someone can give me a quick "yea, that's a simple fix..." Battery is fine (been on trickle charger all winter and Spree starts right up), all lights and directionals work fine. Low and high beams both appeared to have crapped out simultan...

Re: Bleeding Oil Lines, Rear Drive & Battery Questions

All,

I have resolved all my issues with the help of a friend of a friend who also has a Honda scooter and has been working on it for many years.

I am learning as I go.

Thanks,

Steve

Bleeding Oil Lines, Rear Drive & Battery Questions

Hi, Happy Holidays! You all have been very helpful to my wife and me, new owners of a 1986 Spree. We would appreciate help on the following topics: 1. I checked the oil strainer and now have to bleed the lines, per the manual. I think I can handle it. First, is it really required? If so, any tips? 2...

Re: Tranny & Final Drive Fluid Change Frequencies

Guys, First, happy holidays to all! I am back with a couple of questions, since I have finally made the time to perform some maintenance on our '86 Spree. Your help would be very much appreciated. Here goes: 1. The manual says '85 Spree's have 4 amp hour electrical systems and '86 models have 3 amp ...

Re: Tranny & Final Drive Fluid Change Frequencies

Again, thank you all for this very valuable info. We are really enjoying the scooter - keeping my wife young - and are beginning to appreciate the huge following these scooters have.

Re: Tranny & Final Drive Fluid Change Frequencies

I really appreciate all the responses. You guys are entertaining as well as informative.

I did read in the manual that the trans fluid should be changed but you're saying there is none??? OK, so go with 10W30 for the final drive. Am I able to see where to pour the stuff in?

Thanks again!

Tranny & Final Drive Fluid Change Frequencies

Hi, My wife and I are new to her '86 Spree with 1700 miles on it; we bought it from a guy on The Cape 3 months ago and you guys were great in helping us fix a directional issue. So, 2 new questions: In reality, how often should the trans fluid be changed? How about the final drive fluid? The manual ...

How Do I Get To The Direction Wires?

Folks, we're new owners of an '86 Spree. We need to reverse the wires in the directional switch (they are working "backwards"). How do I take it apart to get to the wires. The service manual does not address this. Thanks very much, Steve

Directionals Are Working "Backward"

Hi, My wife has satisfied her midlife crisis with a 1986 Honda Spree. She loves it. The only issue is that, when the directional lever is moved to the left, the right directional comes on and vice versa. I am sure it is a simple wiring issue (the previous owner claimed to never use the directionals ...
