Re: 1987 NQ50 Running Issues

something is wrong there. It should die when the air bleed screw is turned all the way in, or out 3 turns or more, unless you have your idle speed screw turned too far in. It should be easy to find the best setting for the air bleed screw, as idle speed will decrease if you go 1/8 of a turn in eithe...

Re: 1987 NQ50 Running Issues

My experience is pretty limited, but it tells me that if you need WOT to start it, then your idle mixture, i.e. air bleed screw is not set properly. While the engine is fully warm and idling, and you screw the bleed screw in a half turn from where it is now and then out a full turn, there should be ...

Re: 1987 NQ50 Running Issues

"It starts and runs great (good acceleration, good idle) for a minute, but after riding it for a bit (it runs great at top speed), it has terrible acceleration - and I mean TERRIBLE. I'm barely able to keep it balanced for the 20 seconds or so it takes it to get to 15 mph, after which, it takes...

The Fleet

Rather than add an update with more photos to the end of this thread, I decided to just edit the original post. I hope that that is ok. Some posts in this thread were lost when the forum was reverted back a few days in September. The missing posts from others pretty much said I should add an Elite t...

Re: 1984 Aero 50 top speed help

I have a dead stock 1984 Aero, and I can get it to 40 MPH only while going down a pretty good hill... I might get to 45 mph on a very steep hill. 35 on the level is about normal for mine. In any event, to answer part of your question, it isn't normal for the engine to slow down and lurch once you op...

Re: Electric starter issues

one or more of the brake levers have to be squeezed before the starter button will work.. usually, the easiest way is to lock the left brake lever with the moving stop, and then that lets you push the starter button with your left hand while working the throttle with your right hand. Once the Spree ...

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

motormike.. hope you get yours running too. Let me know if you want me to run any tests on mine. I did find out what to expect for vacuum pressure at the fuel valve vacuum line fitting on the input pipe on a working Spree, and I should add it to this post. First, here is the gauge I use. I've had it...

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

So far so good.. cold start perfect, hot start perfect, idle perfect, top speed indicated about 31 on the level, quick off the line, engine hasn't mis-fired once, now about 40 miles on the new rings and left crank seal. Time to post a beauty shot..

Re: Gas mileage

ppat, This morning, I did an mpg test with my Spree to add some data to your topic. First, the fuel gauge was reading about 1/2 and it took .30 gallons to fill it to the ring at the bottom of the filler neck. I started the mpg test with the fuel level at that ring, and the fuel gauge reading full. I...

Re: Gas mileage

On my Spree, the gas gauge reads full when the tank is full, and empty when it is empty, but it reads about 1/2 when the tank is 3/4 full, and about 1/4 when the tank is about half full. Don't know if that helps, but to me, your reading sounds about normal. When you fill up the next time, see how mu...

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

Well, Demanshaffer gave me just what I needed. I put the motor up on the bench instead of trying to work on it while it was in the Spree. I had been trying to avoid taking the engine apart as the Spree had only about 850 miles on it, and it was clear to me that nobody had ever been inside of it sinc...

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

Gearhart.. that is a good suggestion .. much appreciated.

Denmanshaffer.. that is brilliant.. I hadn't thought of that, and that is a very good tip as I can spin the motor faster with a drill than I can with the starter motor. I will experiment with that.
