Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I've got the clutch 90% quiet... It chirps a bit engaging when cold but goes away after a mile or two. Got my red ch80 parts bike with collision damaged front end running yesterday. Swapped the engine into my black 99. The engine from the black one will be gone through over time by myself. I also wa...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
Taking a break from putting the metal grease seal back on the variator to see if it makes any difference. If it acts smoothly and still doesn't make any noises, maybe I should focus on the LOUD EBC brake shoes. Maybe swap the stockers back in.
Then maybe sell it?!

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
When my variator slide to the high ratio now, its too high. It feels like its lugging when this happens.

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I'm going to clean up some stuff and fiddle with some other stuff while the plastic is off, and then I'm more or less "done" with this one. My black 99 ch80 is next up. Want to go crazy customizing it. I have to pull the engine, put a new starter and bendix on it, put a new drive on it as ...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I put yet another clutch on it today. This one has 7k miles and is well worn but still looks like it has plenty of life left in it. The contact area of the weights and the bell looked like the best-worn-together pairing yet. 40 miles in some heavy traffic and some big hills and so far NO SQUEAKING! ...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I'm going to try some gy6 stuff. Anyone have any experience with this? Those battlescooter clutches had to have come from somewhere in the chinese scooter hop up parts world. I'm flat broke now... If I were rich I'd try a new variator, 11g sliders, a new belt, and one of those ebay kevlar lined clut...

Well that didn't help any.
Clutch is louder now.

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
Got it all put together. Again. Left the grease cover and o-ring off the variator and polished the faces too. Put on a nearly new belt off a recently acquired parts bike. Used all my best parts. Grooved weights and drilled bell. I drilled out an extra side cover but it wouldn't go on. The starter be...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I've drilled some 1/4" and 1/2" "speed holes" in an extra side cover and drilled some 5/32" holes in an extra bell.
May install them in a little while and see if they help out any. The slots in the weights/shoes seems to help a good bit.

Re: I might seriously have a honda addiction problem
I now have four ch80's and two Derbi's in my garage...
I just wish all of them were running, but I guess one runner is better than none.

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
cool, man thanks! Is it drilled? Also- if you have any aftermarket driven face assemblies, could you maybe take some measurements when you get the time? If that KN bell is drilled, I'll take it for sure! Ready to get this all figured out so I can move on to my 99 ch80 project. I want to do a full cu...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
Yes its 107... I think. I've asked around but can't find exact measurements to see if the offset would be the same or similar enough. I belive the spline count is 22 but I'd have to check. Battlescooter was selling high performance clutches for these engines but stopped selling them a while back. I'...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
Its so much better with the grooves I put in the contact area of the weights. Makes me wonder if clutch slip isn't just part of life with these little things. My ch80 will cruise at 40-45 with myself and the ole lady on board. Together we weigh nearly 300 lbs... If I'm on it without her and I tuck I...

Re: CH80 Clutch woes...
I'm starting to consider swapping the whole engine out. I've been trying to get my 99 running to test it against the 2001. Maybe these things are just annoyingly noisy if used very hard. I ride 45-50 mph for 20 miles at a time over hills and even the occasional dirt road. Sometimes 2 up. Can these c...
