Re: Spree Bogging Down and Over-revving

Can't find any air leaks anywhere or see what the problem would be coming from. Only other thing that I forgot to mention is that I rebuilt the top end of the engine from an online kit because it was seized when I got it. Any other ideas?

Re: Spree Bogging Down and Over-revving

I replaced the crank seals already and have a new exhaust gasket on it. I'll double check for air leaks tomorrow though. I just don't know where the extra air would be coming in with replacing all the gaskets.

Re: Spree Bogging Down and Over-revving

Sorry in advance, posting from mobile. The air box is sealed other than the inlet with a new filter that has been oiled. I cooked the exhaust and beat on it a little to break out some of the carbon and it doesn't seem clogged. I had the stock carb on and it did the same thing so I bought an aftermar...

Spree Bogging Down and Over-revving

Hello, I've been trying to get this one Spree running for over a year now. I think I finally have most of the issues sorted out, but there is one last one that I can't seem to get. It has a hard time starting (whether cold or warm) and I've been using a drill with a socket on the starter sprocket to...

Re: 1987 Spree Bogs at Full Throttle

I was out of town this weekend so I didn't really have any time to do work on the Spree. I did bring it with me for the weekend and rode it quite a bit. I ended up just unplugging the bystarter and things seemed to run better with no bogging after it warmed up. I'm going to do the bystarter test thi...

Re: 1987 Spree Bogs at Full Throttle

It's an aftermarket bystarter off of eBay since the one that came with was broken

Re: Slow Cranking from 1985 Spree Electric Start

Brought the motor to a repair shop and they said the armature was burnt out and I'm looking to see how much it is to rebuild.

Re: 1987 Spree Bogs at Full Throttle

Update: Only seems to start bogging when warm. Right at cold start up it runs fine until it gets warm and then starts bogging. Makes it seem like the bystarter to me.

Re: Dio Boggs at Mid Throttle only

Having the same problem and haven't found a solution yet. Seems to run fine right when it starts up and then once warm it starts bogging. Makes it seem like the bystarter to me too.

1987 Spree Bogs at Full Throttle

So I have a 1985 Spree that I swapped a 1987 motor on to that I recently got running. Everything seems to be working fine except at full throttle. It will run fine on the centerstand and if you gradually bring it up to full throttle on a flat road. As soon as I get to a hill which puts extra load on...

Re: Slow Cranking from 1985 Spree Electric Start

Measured the voltage while jumping. Started at about 13v and dropped to 10.5v while cranking. I'm jumping from my car battery and I drive the car everyday, so I know that battery is good. Starter and starter relay still got pretty hot after trying for about 20 seconds (with some breaks in between pu...

Slow Cranking from 1985 Spree Electric Start

I had a different post on this a couple of months ago that seems to have died. Anyways, I am having issues getting my spree to start with the electric start. The starter motor cranks over very slowly and doesn't spin the motor fast enough to start. Some info: -The battery voltage drops from 12v to 9...

Re: '85 Spree will not start with electric motor

Finally got back to working on the spree today since I got caught up on the cars. Jumping the battery from a car doesn't make it run any better. It still starts off decently fast and then slows down pretty quick. The battery drops from ~13V down to 9V when cranking and then keeps decreasing slowly f...

Re: '85 Spree will not start with electric motor

Finally got back around to working on the Spree (race cars have been taking priority lately). I tried leaving a gap with the left side cover to simulate there being a gasket there and to make sure I wasn't pinching the pinon and nothing really changed when I tried to start it. I also tried jumping i...

Re: '85 Spree will not start with electric motor

I'll give the cereal box gasket a try within the next couple of days.

And thanks for clarifying the scooter/moped thing. I had no idea!
