Almost looks like a pod filter hanging down above the belt cover. It may have been modified in some way if it is. Could also just be a case of a missing airbox and that was the replacement.
Talk him down as much as possible, do your homework. Let us know how it goes!

Re: Anyone do a Metro motor swap into a Spree?
Im not in the market for a met, it was just an example of the availability and cost of them in my area. When I tore down a met to its bones I noticed they hide a vin number in a few spots. I believe I counted 3 total with the leg shield being one of them. There is also one stamped on the frame but y...

Re: Anyone do a Metro motor swap into a Spree?
I guess youd have look at the bigger picture. By the time I strip everything down, sandblast it, replace all moving parts like crank, bearings, radiator, carb internals, gears, tranny parts, etc etc etc....id have $1000 into it plus 100's of hours of time/labor. This motor just isn't worth it. Fully...

Re: Anyone do a Metro motor swap into a Spree?
A little rustoleum will take care of this, eh?
That's what I get for buying a bike from a crackhead for $32! I salvaged the stem, wheels and a few other odds n ends. Scrapped the rest. Even the gears weren't savable.

Re: Anyone do a Metro motor swap into a Spree?
I don't think this Met will be swapped into anything but a landfill. I popped off the belt cover when I was tearing it down and gallons of water came pouring out. Then I saw THIS!!!!!

A quick PM to graphite9 will answer all your questions. Always make triple sure before ordering anything. Ive made so many snap decisions on ordering parts I didn't need or dont fit its disgusting.

Re: Does anyone else own a Honda NS 50?
Im sure during the design phase they took into account the amount of cooling needed for each area of the cylinder and adjusted the holes accordingly. Opening up a hole bigger would essentially rob the amount of flow from other ports and reduce cooling in those areas. Im on board with assuming Honda ...

Re: Does anyone else own a Honda NS 50?
That head gasket is weird, why is it like that a design thing or aftermarket? Agree, seems like the center ring would seal the cylinder but would cause a much weaker seal around water channels. Paper gasket material has a certain amount of squish where the center ring will not unless its a crush-ty...

Re: Does anyone else own a Honda NS 50?
I would test fit the gasket on the head to make sure no holes are being restricted. My 2 cents

Re: Upcoming Presidential election
Remember in the 50's when the Man's wages alone could afford the home, cars, clothes, food, raise 2-3 kids and still be comfortable? While the wifey could stay home and actually raise the children. Now even when both parents work 40hr jobs its tough to buy a mediocre home, drive high mileage clunker...

Steering lock works now...sah-weet!
I never actually use it but now I know the turn radius is correct.

Re: Does the Met stem need to be modified to go into an SE50
Had to grind away more of the turn stop nub to get the steering lock to work. It was close but the lock peg was off by just a hair. As a guide, the stop nub should be grinded away to basically match the width of the small bracket right above it...see pic.

Re: Does the Met stem need to be modified to go into an SE50
Finally, the Met stem is in its final resting home. Using both SE50 cups, SE50 lower bearing race and SE50 stem nuts on the top.
For the record, I didn't re-install the loose ball bearings. I picked up a new non-loose set...like it should've been.
