Re: 86 Spree ALMOST running after 10 years. Almost. Advice?

A Spree, and many others have what is called a bystarter automatic choke. This valve is open for cold starts. It closes by having an electrical heater that heats and expands a gel substance that forces the start valve closed. By then the engine should run on the idle circuit if in good condition. If...

Re: Stock Spree with Taz gears..RESULTS!!

Gonna use anything over 105 PSI warm. If it will start. and up to 175. After 175 I will clean all the extra carbon out. If a kit, then whatever they recommend. Does any one use 175 or over? Model T's were around 4:1 http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech-general-engine/274125-what-lowest-compression-ra...

Re: Stock Spree with Taz gears..RESULTS!!

The 113 psi compression is in direct contradiction to the one on pg 1-3 specification: 7.2 or 6.8. Maintenance 3-1 says 113. Same manual. I believe lower on 1-3 may be for the Iowa model or some other wimped down model. I also got the SE 50 manual, free download, from motrscooterguide-net. They did ...

Re: 86 Spree ALMOST running after 10 years. Almost. Advice?

If gas is leaking that is an indication of the needle/seat not closing off. The gas level in the carb. should never overflow on level ground. the needle seat should shut off flow before the level in the bowl reaches the gasket. Also the hose on the bottom of the gas outlet at the tank is to open the...

Re: Spree wont run without filter myth

Ultraliner: You have it wrong! Reread what I said. It will restart with one or two kicks AFTER the soft seize. It will also rev up fine on the kickstand after soft seize. The "later and next day." had to do with cold starts and 5 minute runs before bogging. Just did this three times after ...

Spree wont run without filter myth

I am sure you have been told this over and over again. I pulled out a Spree that has been outside under a thick plastic tarp for ten years to check spark on a coil of a Chinese 150. Since the engine had some compression and real blue spark I decided to see if it would run. No filter and kick start o...

Re: Spree bbk issues.

The reason to mix 32:1 is to make sure there is enough lub. At 50cc there is enough, maybe. Read the stock pump is 50:1. That seems too little even for 50cc. Now, at 68cc there is even less oil. Reconnecting the pump gives more oil. Perhaps averaging about 20:1. In the way back it was common to see ...

Re: Stock Spree with Taz gears..RESULTS!!

110 PSI ?? Maybe that is built into a BBK rebuild. or excessive carbon? The Spree service manual says 7.2: 1. That = 105.8. Have read some quote 120 and 150.
They haven't said where they got that info.

Re: Very low compression in cw direction

I took the head, jug and cylinder off after getting a 80 PSI compression. Booth rings had a piece missing where the locating pins are. Resulting in a 1/4" ring gap each. My piston is a .5mm and has worn down to a .007 clearance between the cyl. ridge and skirt, .013 just below the ridge. Servic...

Re: Stock Spree with Taz gears..RESULTS!!

I have a 86 Spree that seems to soft seize after 5 minutes on the grass. No title so just for off road use. Compression is only 80 and is hard to start cold. It starts one or two kicks when warmed up. Has no filter and runs without then slows to 5mph like I said about 5 minutes. What is the proper t...

Very low compression in cw direction

When doing a compression test on a 86 Spree I turned the flywheel clockwise and there was way low compression. Turn it the right direction and compression returns but is only 80 PSI. It is hard to start and runs fair for 5 minuets then bogs to 5mph. Let it cool and it does the same again. Starts wit...

Re: Ported spree

I read someone wanting to have better take-off and at the same time putting in high speed gearing. You can not get both. You need to put in low speed gears to get better hole shots. Also the clutch will burn up faster with high sped gears. I would suggest getting the engine to run faster and leave t...
