Re: '99 Elite 50 De-Restrict/General Help
Update on the de-restrict! The strap wrench, after much struggle, managed to get the bolts off. It broke in the process, though; it just doesn't grip the teeth of the front crankshaft well enough to re-tighten to spec. The impact driver was definitely the way to go, but it's hard to justify shelling...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
I have keli too. I personally dont like them, but some guys love em! Whatever floats your boat. http://scooterswapshop.com/collections/dio/products/keli-variator Awesome! Thanks for the link. Even if the variator/gears are purchased elsewhere, the big bore will certainly be bought from SSS ;) But y...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
The keli variator is a better deal in my opionion not trying to nick sss sales and the 16x ... gears are gonna be your shot I've seen the keli variator mentioned all over these boards but can't for the life of me find the website that sells them! Mind pointing me in the right direction? EDIT: Is th...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
The concise list of stages for upgrade is much appreciated; budget will certainly be the limiting factor, but I'd like to at least get a nice BBK in her when all's said and done. So if I were to swap out the variator and gears, these parts would suffice, right? http://scooterswapshop.com/products/di...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
Is an aftermarket intake manifold a common upgrade for these machines? Thanks for the tip on the big bores, too, that cast iron Malossi looks real appealing for the price! After I get these restrictions pulled off, would folks here recommend re-gearing or a big bore as the first upgrade? Was ponderi...

Re: '99 Elite 50 De-Restrict/General Help
Okay, so I picked up a torque driver ratchet today and am waiting on the strap wrench to get delivered, but in the meantime I thought I'd post this... http://imgur.com/a/joj6K There's a stray hose that's sticking out just above the rear clutch and seems to be leaking fluid onto the rear kickstart co...

Re: '99 Elite 50 De-Restrict/General Help
I just use my handy cordless DeWalt impact driver with a socket on it. But you can also use a strap wrench along with your socket set. Like $10 at Lowes or HD. Not only do I know jack-all about scooter disassembly, it seems I'm woefully ignorant of tools in general! Had no idea such a thing existed...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
Thanks for all the advice and corrections, everyone! I'll be sure to go to ScooterSwapShop when the time comes for new rollers, gearing, and a proper big bore... though I have a lot to learn about small engine maintenance/design before I attempt such a thing (complete neophyte in that regard). I pul...

'99 Elite 50 De-Restrict (Update: Starter Pinion Help)
After picking up a bone stock '99 Elite S last week that tops out at 25, I decided to pop off the kick start cover and attempt to remove the restrictor plate in the front clutch. However, I seem to have bit off a bit more than I can chew with my current tools; following this video as a general guide...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
And I'm not sure if scootertuning.ca has the right parts for you... that kit said af18 I don't think it's the same motor. The advice is much appreciated, man. Good to know about the Airsal; I'm not sure just yet if I'm after crazy top end as much as I am solid acceleration and torque on the low-mid...

Re: Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
If is running right and only hits 25, then it is likely still restricted. If you don't modify the exhaust or modify the airbox, but simply remove part #6 and three #13s in the drawing at the link below it will go 29 or 30, and you won't have to change the main jet, nor change the flow from the oil ...

Picking up a '99 Elite 50 tomorrow, first post!
Hey all. Long-time lurker, first time poster! About to pick up a 1999 Elite tomorrow, 3,700 miles. Paying $600 with a $100 down-payment to hold the bike. She's been dropped a couple times but kicked over just fine and the engine didn't feel warm to the touch when I got there. Looks like it needs a n...
