92 Elite SA50 Ignition / No Spark / Shut Down Unexpectedly
So the bike was running well on the bench after rebuilding the carburetor and simply shut down. I can confirm there is no spark using a good spark plug tested via the lawnmower. Using the Service Manual, I've been through all of the resistance checks within Section 15 and everything appears to be wi...

Re: Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Thanks for the input guys. The old seal that was replaced actually looked pretty good other than riding outside of the housing and on the shaft. Bearings felt fine. Runout check is a good idea. Thanks!

Re: Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Just wanted to close out this post with an update that might be helpful to another. The OD on 3/4" PVC is slightly larger than the 25.7 mm OD of the crankcase / crankshaft oil seals. IMG_1262 (1).jpg So I added a pair of vice grips to one end of the PVC pipe for weight, held the pipe vertically...

Re: Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Appreciate it VG. It was your post http://hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31793&hilit=low+vacuum+crankcase+seals that helped lead me to the crankcase area inspection. Also hit home that you'd rather be working on scooters than crossword puzzles. This users group has been a tremendo...

Re: Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Thanks. It's pretty dry on the alternator side. Evidently the previous owners had loaded the variator with a lot of grease. I believe the gunk in the photo is largely from being slung off of the variator. I don't believe there has been very much inspection or maintenance given to this scooter previo...

Re: Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Thank you. I believe the ID of 3/4" schedule 40 pipe is ~ 15mm. Does anyone know the crankshaft OD for the shoulder area the oil seal rides at?

Advice needed for installing left crankshaft oil seal
Have a 1992 Elite SA50. This forum has been very helpful in troubleshooting and getting me to this point. Found the left side crankcase oil seal completely out of the housing by 1/8" and likely explains why it shut down 10 miles from home. Short of purchasing the tool(s) to press on a new crank...
