Wasn't much time left so I pulled the trigger.
Now then, I guess I need an engine.

Would this work for a engine swap?
I just saw this. Would it work for a spree engine swap? http://m.ebay.com/itm/222504478337?_mwBanner=1&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F0%252Fe11010.m1951.l7534%252F7%253Feuid%253D093b30c8a5f14640933b9d3aca41870f%2526bu%253D43186046656%2526loc%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fw...

Oil pump spits oil when trying to start
I'm trying to start my 86 spree project and I've noticed when I try to turn it over the oil pump is loose and is spitting oil
https://youtu.be/LAoQsDFUkUg
I'm guessing something is loose and needs a seal?
That reminds me of a joke....
The punch line is "no, I just had ice cream"

Re: Start button
That could be it. Looking at the wire nut, there are 3 green wires 2 thinner than the other. I beleive the thicker wire goes from the starter to the battery and the 2 thin wires are the ground for the rear turn signals. I'll have to figure out where the battery negative goes before it's ground to th...

Ok. I posted hastily.
My starter motor sometimes spins, sometimes it doesnt.
Battery is fully charged.

Re: Start button
A quick update. I had a interrupter button from radio shack back when that was still a thing. I hooked it up and everything worked as it should. I pressed the button and the starter turned. This is the first time this has worked correct electrically.
So there's that
So there's that

Does anyone have a source for a replacement spring for an 86 spree start button. I've flattened 2 of them. No elasticity in them at all.
I tried replacing it with another spring but it won't make contact. Though if I touch the contact with a screwdriver it seems to work.

Re: Starter motors
I got a new starter motor from someone on this forum. He was unsure if it was good or not but since mine was broken beyond repair I figure I'd take a chance.
I tested it and it jumped across the table (I forgot to put it in a vice) but I think that's a good sign, right?

I just saw a guy riding a spree down Chippewa streets standing up. I couldn't tell but I guess it didn't have a seat.

Re: yeahbradley- DioSpreeee
That looks good. It still has the small footprint of a spree. That's what I'm hoping to do.
I agree with Mr. Clark about keeping it a spree but when your plastics are wrecked you may as well do what you need to with it.

Re: greetings from St. Louis
I'll keep my eyes open for a better engine locally and otherwise. I've been also searching for the definitive post on mounting it. I'd prefer it to look stock. I don't care for the low pimped out look that some people go for. I'm not going to put any more money into this until I find the right engin...

Re: greetings from St. Louis
Trouble is finding them around here. I never see any elites on cl except sometimes an 80 shows up and they want 900 for it. I'm not against swapping at all. I just haven't come across the parts yet
