Re: Spreekenstein... spree chinesium engine swap

Don't know about the plastics fitting, probably won't run any on this seeing as they are hard to find...

Spreekenstein... spree chinesium engine swap

Combining a totaled Spree with a totaled Chinese Scooter... this is what you get. 139QMB 50cc four stroke engine with a variable CVT. This is nowhere near finished, but it runs. Thought I would share. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/863/41367283192_ae3a2ae7ec_c.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/886/...

A post about what the questions were about...

This is a show and tell about some of the posts that I have made, and a thank you to all who helped! Picked this literal bucket of parts up for $40 and was going to use it for parts, when I decided to see if I had enough to build a complete scooter. Well there was enough parts, and thanks to this bo...

Re: Gasket material type/stencils wanted (afo5e

Here's a PNG file of the Spree gaskets that I made. I drew them up in Illustrator, and cut them with my plotter out of sheet gasket material... Let me know if you need it in any other format.

Spree Hot Start issues

Rebuilt this 86 Spree, stock for now. Starts and runs great! Problem is after a trip and shut off the scooter, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, go back and the scoot won't start. Cranks no problem. Trying to figure out if it's fuel leaking into the engine causing it to be too rich, or if it's boiling o...

Re: Crank Questions - Spree

Yeah I think the idea is a bit off, but I don't have a ton of monetary resources to throw into this, plus it's a challenge. I figure if I heat harden the split nut it will be harder than the crank, which by the way, is incredibly soft!

Will keep you posted...

Crank Questions - Spree

I need a bit of information regarding a Spree crank... I am trying to figure out what bearings it needs, the manual shows two different types and only one is available anymore. I have searched and found a ton on how to remove but not much on what I need as far as replacement. The second is does anyo...

Re: 86 Spree throttle cable question

I will answer my own question! (I hate threads that aren't finished.) I ended up cutting the outer cable with a dremel cutoff, pretty darn easily! The trick was to cut it perpendicular to the cable and then each 'wrap' would come off considering the outer sleeve is spiral wound. Took 10 minutes, mos...

86 Spree throttle cable question

I ended up with an 86 spree basket case, literally. It came in 4 boxes and a frame. Slowly piecing it together, wan't to get the motor running before I get to the rest of the scooter, but the throttle cable supplied appears too short. I can fit the barrel into the slide but there is no movement. Any...

Re: Autostarter valve question

Thanks! Another bystarter question... It starts beautifully, runs extremely rich (smokes!) for about 5 - 10 minutes then the valve closes, is that considered normal?
Thanks again!

Autostarter valve question

Howdy all, new member and owner of a 1984 Spree. All stock, just hasn't been ridden in a while. Got it running, cleaned the carb (twice), battery is good, new fuel, oil and lines. Just replaced the autostarter with a new one since it wouldn't start with the old one but it would with the finger test....

Re: Spree hotwire ignition..help

You can also do what I did: I pulled the ignition cylinder out, removed the 'tumblers', reinstalled the cylinder. You still need something to turn the 'keyway', like a screwdriver, pocketknife or an old key. Not very secure but better than nothing. I am going to add a kill switch under the seat that...
