Re: Throttle issues before and after carb rebuild

Sounds like a good project for Wednesday when IÔÇÖll have the day off from work. IÔÇÖll give it a go.

One thought: a derestricted S still has a different variator ramp and final gearing than an SR, right? Could that be the reason for the difference? Or would a stock SR go even faster than 40?

Re: Throttle issues before and after carb rebuild

UPDATED UPDATE: We are officially rolling! Went for a short ride to warm it up so I could tune the carb properly, no issues. Tuned the carb and made about a 5-mile round trip into town and back to fill up. GPS confirmed 38.5 on a slight decline. Didn't get a good number for a true flat but it looked...

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

I agree, SSS is top notch. I've bought an exhaust gasket, a set of mirrors, and main jet kit for the factory carb from them. Not sure who runs their facebook page but they are usually pretty quick to respond to messages and very helpful. Only things I didn't get from them were a factory air filter (...

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

Heh. I suspect I am very much like "most" of you. It is unusual that any of my vehicles stay stock for very long. :-) I will add a small amount of oil to the tank (~0.8oz/gal) along with keeping my oil pump...for now. But ditching the oil system and running pre-mix seems to be the way to g...

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

Meatball - Just had a thought. If and attaching a throttle cable to the S oil pump does nothing, wouldn't that mean that zip-tying it wide open would have no effect either? Or does that refer to a different part of the pump? Reading the wiki, it seems that there is a difference of 5 CC at WOT betwee...

Normal oil volume at idle

Hello again! As part of the work I am doing on my 2001 Elite SA50P (derestricted), I drained the boat oil the previous owner had been using, removed and cleaned the strainer, and bled the air out of the inlet line, the pump, and the outlet line, per the service manual's instructions. The manual says...

Re: Throttle issues before and after carb rebuild

UPDATE: I may have gotten it figured out. I decided to have another go at tuning it before nightfall. I think I had my tach on the wrong setting so it was actually giving me half the RPM of what the engine was actually running at. I'm not sure how many pulses per cycle the elite gives. Per the instr...

Re: Throttle issues before and after carb rebuild

I replaced the intake gasket along with all the other gaskets when rebuilding the carb. Anything else that should be looked at?

Throttle issues before and after carb rebuild

Hi everyone, So I've been in the process of fixing a whole bunch of stuff on my 2001 elite S (derestricted), including rebuilding the carb. I followed this guide to the letter http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Carburetor_Cleaning_Picture_Guide . It starts right up, and idles smoothly aroun...

Re: The path to 50-60 MPH...

Yeah, I've bought almost all of the aftermarket parts for this thing from them. Not a whole lot but they've been super helpful; they usually answer my questions fast via facebook. They also recommended deleting the oil pump and running premix, even on a stock motor. Power wise, would it really make ...

Re: The path to 50-60 MPH...

Thanks for the response. What gears did you end up going with? I was toying with the idea of getting a new variator. Also, how complicated is a BBK to install? IÔÇÖm pretty good with automotive/mechanical work but is it something IÔÇÖll need special tools to do?

The path to 50-60 MPH...

Hello again! Another (probably) n00b question for you scooter gurus: I'm thinking about trying to mod/tune my 2001 Elite SA50P to the point where I it would be reasonable for me to ride it to work and back. The commute is about 20 miles each way, with speed limits between 30 and 45. There are a few ...

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

Per the info from Bones, after cleaning the plate off I can see it is marked as the GS7V, the "S" pump. I'd love to know for sure if the "Y" cable actually does anything on the "S" pump, that would help me know if I need to add any extra oil to the gas. I know too much ...

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

I cleaned off the spot and it is the GS7V, so the normal pump for the Elite S. I'll probably just clean the oil strainer and add an ounce or so of oil to the tank when I fill up, unless I don't need to because of the split cable?

I'm excited, its almost ready to ride again!

Re: 2001 Elite performance questions

Thanks Meatball. I looked at the sticker and sure enough it said SA50P. I snapped a picture of the throttle cable and of the pump. Is this the Y-type cable from the SR? If so, do I need to do anything to the pump to increase its output now that I've re-jetted and de-restricted the scooter?
