Re: Auto Moto (A.K.A Xingyue XY150ZK) Project

The wiring diagram shows a headlight switch, it's not on mine. After searching the front of the bike for the headlight fuse I found it under the seat, by the taillight. I installed a switch in the circuit, before the fuse, and now I have control without the risk of another fire. I replaced the stand...

Re: 1991 Honda Elite

Titles aren't a real issue. How do I tell the difference between the 50cc and the 80cc? Is it in the casting for the case?

So far I can't get the guy to return my messages, typical FB Marketplace behavior.

I wouldn't do a frame-up resto, I'd just get it running reliably and looking decent.

1991 Honda Elite

There's a 1991 Honda Elite scooter for sale in my area for $100. It's not running and missing rear plastics and the headlight with surround. I assume these parts are readily available. I'm not a Honda scooter guy, yet, but I'd like to add this to my fleet if it's not too far gone. Are there any majo...

Electrics!

After removing a boatload of panels from the scooter I found that a PO had unplugged the headlights. That explained why they didn't work. I also traced the user installed "Kill Switch" and determined that it disconnects the negative lead from the battery. When this person wired in the swit...

Re: New 50cc scooters are now $575 in Florida

Chinese scooters have their place. Theyre great for re-selling for profit if the margin is there. However, if your profit is a mere $150/scooter, youd need to sell 7-10 every week to make a decent living. The market isnt that hot to move that many....maybe in China? The local dealer sells Scooters ...

Re: New 50cc scooters are now $575 in Florida

This isn't going to make me popular but: My daughter bought a pink Taotao three years ago for $699. The dealer replaced the carburetor and battery before we picked it up, his standard procedure. A couple weeks later it died, I took it back to the dealer it had a crimped fuel line. She rode it a year...

OOPS!

I had the rear tires mounted and installed them on the scooter ... zero clearance, doh! :surprise: I'll need to come up with a way to mount the rear fender assembly to clear. I removed it and a quick check shows it won't look too bad even with the larger tires, once it is raised a couple inches. I'l...

Let's spend some money!

I plan on riding well into the cold weather and the semi-enclosed body lends itself to that but the tires were not up to the task. They were in good shape but standard scooter tires have very little tread and I needed to make sure I could handle rain. Who knows, I might even try it in the snow! I ha...

Making it road legal

Before I invested more money in the project I needed to make sure I could ride it legally in MA. I did a VIN check online, the VIN showed the year, model, displacement, company and manufacturer. I found no registration or any issues with the VIN. I read everything on the VT DMV site and filled out e...

Make or break test

I ordered a generic carb from Amazon the next day, installed it, hooked it up to my IV gas tank and it started right up! That was promising until smoke started coming out from under the front plastics. I calmly turned it off. I've owned Fiats since the 70s so I'm not a stranger to burning wir...

Auto Moto (A.K.A Xingyue XY150ZK) Project

First topic here, not a Honda but a clone of the old Honda Gyro. I've checked out some links to Gyro hardware and the Auto Moto hardware is nearly identical. I'm starting this to avoid hijacking the other Xingyue thread. I first saw a tilting trike back in the early 80s at Epcot Center in Orlando an...

Re: Progress on the Xingyue XY150ZK (A.K.A. AutoMoto)

No, I have the same drums that you have. I think the new ones have the dual disk brakes. I noticed that the new ones have two different skinny tire options, perhaps the disks only come on one of those. You can find them on Alibaba. I will be starting my own thread to track my progress instead of hij...

Re: Progress on the Xingyue XY150ZK (A.K.A. AutoMoto)

Yes, I can tell by the photo of your Auto moto in the trailer that you have the narrow version, with taller and thinner rear tires and better rear wheels. I think that is probably preferred as it may also have better brakes. I just got my new rear tires mounted so I can verify that the rear brakes ...

Re: How old is everyone?

60, I've been riding since 1970. I took my motorcycle test on a 60s Honda scrambler back around '74. I'd love to have one now but they're too pricey for me now.
