Re: Member Check-In thread

Isn't that the vehicle plus max cargo? I think it's about 300 lbs, assuming the Spree weighs about 100 and the rider is 200. How strict are they on accuracy?

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Update... it WAS the air filter. And apparently how I had the wire from the ignition coil ran? I think it might have been picking up interference. It runs great again (for now), I am on the 86 main jet and it rips! I think I might go down one more to see how it runs as my temps are still in the high...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

These things are fun and maddening at the same time LOL. I was messing with it and now it idles fine, and accelerates fine on the stand, but when you ride it it bogs down across the rev range and won't go more than 20 MPH. It seems like an air leak but I have replaced all the gaskets in the carb (ag...

Re: fuel vacuum line

I had this problem with my '85, it turned out the little rubber "hat" where the throttle cable goes into the carb didn't fit right allowing for the the gas in the carb to evaporate more quickly, but not enough to cause issues with it running.

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Greetings: Presuming your temp sender is a 14mm under the spark plug, 300F. is definitely NOT a problem. It might even indicate your mixture is a bit rich, if anything, so you're leaving some power on the table. 350 or so is ideal, 380 indicates caution, and 400 is really risky. What does the spark...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Thanks! I'll be on the hunt for one now lol!

I've got an 88 main in there now and she runs well! I think I'm going to try 90 just to see if it brings the temps down. I was a little under 300 today, after a good amount of riding, mostly WOT. I think that's ok?

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Thanks Ivy! The last thing I want to do is blow her up just as I get her together!

Looking at your build, do you think it would be good for me to upgrade to an SB50 intake and reed cage? Is that a direct replacement for the Spree one? IIRC, that helps with air flow?

Re: Main jet recomendations?

I was thinking while I wait for the new CHT... Since I am running a larger jet, do I need to switch to pre-mix or will the oil pump system be enough? It is a LOT louder than before, but I know that is at least in part due to the pod filter and the Slick Willy exhaust. I would rather not have to swit...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Got the 80 main jet in today. I only had a chance to test it briefly, but so far it seems promising. 🤞 I am waiting on a new CHT sensor since I was lazy and didn't mount the original and broke one of the wires. D'OH! Once I get that (hopefully Thursday) I'll do some real testing. And mount it proper...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Try restricting the air filter. Or even better, put the stock one back on. I know Sprees like to be left stock, that's what makes tuning one fun and challenging! I have a stock '85 that usually tool around on. The '87 was a mess when I got it so I figured it would be fun to mess with rather than tr...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Thanks for the input! It runs worse on the 72 I think. I'll try an 80 and see that happens, fingers crossed.

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Just a thought, if the 72 bogs on the top end like it was doing before, would a 74 with the needle in the lean, top position maybe work? I may try that first... 🤔

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Welp... The 74 is better, she'll hit 35 when she's on top of her game! But... She still dies after a while. Longer than with the 76 though so that's an improvement! She'll start up again, but dies if I close the choke or give her throttle. I think she might still be flooding so I'm going to try the ...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

That seems to be my struggle at the moment. It runs FANTASTIC with a 76... For a bit, then dies and won't start. I'm assuming it's flooding slowly as the 76 is just a little more than it can handle. I just put a 74 in tonight, but I didn't get a chance to test it. I'll let you know how it goes! Than...
