Re: 87 aero 50 choke emulsion tube dislodged?

I don't know the actual name for the part but it feeds fuel to the bystarter (choke). I could see a couple of issues if it's loose; 1. Seems like it would suck air instead of pull fuel from the dedicated well built into the float bowl making it run leaner. 2. I believe that same tube is what the bys...

Re: Where to find speedometer gear?

Tried to order a gear from the site I posted and got an error. Sent email, no reply. Guess that's not an option.

Wonder if a 3D printed one (W/ABS) would survive very long..

Re: Where to find speedometer gear?

I did see a few used front hubs but figured the plastic gear was probably already worn on those. BTW, I'm in the US.

How many miles are these plastic gears supposed to be good for? My odometer is showing ~1400 miles.

Where to find speedometer gear?

Started digging into why the speedo isn't working on my 87 Elite SE50P. Pulled the plastic gear out of the front hub and it's worn pretty badly. Not having much luck finding a replacement. I did find this: https://ivengineering.godaddysites.com/ols/products/honda-speedometer-gear-pn-44806-gn2-003/v/...

Re: Running rich

Tried new carb bystarter on old carb, no help. Still too rich. Measured bystarter slide/needle lengths and diameters, all the same. Removed main jets and found old carb has a number on it but I can't read it. New carb main jet appears to have no numbers on it. Used a set of tiny round files used for...

Re: Running rich

Got the new $22 China carb installed. I was a bit lazy and re-used the orig main needle/slide assy. Used my hand vac pump to open the fuel petcock then hit the starter button and walla, it started immediately and idled nicely. Let it warm-up and never had to touch the throttle. After abt 1 min of hi...

Re: Running rich

To be honest, I'm not really expecting the Chinese carb to work all that well. More of a troubleshooting endeavor than a "fix". New carb arrived yesterday. I'll probably be tinkering with it this weekend.

Re: Running rich

Went looking for a new bystarter and found that a new carb is only a few bucks more. Ordered the Amazon carb. If it works OK, I can use it for stare & compare. Ideally, I'd like to have the "orig" carb working right. I blew thru the exh pipe when it was off with 120 psi, no restrictions.

Re: Running rich

Idle mixture screw/needle has been adjusted from fully closed to completely removed. Runs best (but still very poor) with it completely removed. Idle speed adj is all the way IN. Installing or removing air filter box makes little to no difference. The only time it seems like it might want to idle is...

Re: Running rich

Not sure on main jet size but doubt that's the issue since it won't idle. Main jet is mainly for WOT (but also plays a part at 1/2 and 3/4 throttle).

Re: Fuel tank petcock

Yes, when eng is running, there's a small amount of vacuum in the intake where the vac line attaches. That vacuum opens the petcock and allows fuel to enter carb. When eng shuts off, there no more vacuum, so petcock closes. I recently bought an aftermarket replacement petcock since mine had old gas ...

Re: Can you test a stator when it’s off the bike?

Never tested a stator on a motorbike but have done it with portable generators. Using an ohmeter, verify coils are intact and not OPEN. Visually inspect coil/s for areas that may have overheated. Also be sure to measure resistance from the coils to ground, that should be OPEN. Don't have the specifi...

Re: Fuel tank petcock

Correct. Vac line goes to intake and fuel line goes to the carb.

Re: Running rich

Bonesv; Sorry abt the delay responding. It's been a busy holiday season. I bought the scooter from a kid who had been working on it for a while apparently trying to get it running. No idea what he may have swapped out. Scooter is a SE50P. I had prev dropped the needle down as far as it can adjust wi...

Re: Running rich

Still still trying to figure out why eng runs so rich. Starting to think fuel bowl level is OK and bystarter may the the issue. Did a test where a vacuum pump is attached to the bystarter air inlet. Once bystarter warms-up the air is shut off. Did same test to see if the fuel is being shut-off but a...
