That thing looks like a blast! Yeah, it is. Uses many off the shelf bike and engine parts so it's pretty cheap to do routine maintenance on. Uses 16" bike tubes and tires. Uses a standard weed eater plug, the chain is the bigger bicycle chain that Wal-Mart sells. The handlebars fold down so yo...

This is what the Spree is replacing: http://cubey.illiop.com/pics/albums/userpics/10001/normal_000_2372.jpg Ignore the pieces going out from the sides to the back behind the tire. Thats from an experiment in making a trailer for it. I gave up on it once I got my DL. I need to take it back off one of...

Chaining the front and back rims to something solid is pretty good deterant. Getting the rear wheel off is a pain in the * for some hood rat that doesn't have any knowledge or tools available. -aseigler Yes. The other thing I'd be concerned about is the chain being cut. Kind of hard to do in broad ...

Around the rims. Yes, I was thinking that too. I have a good thick rubber coated with steel material in the core coil bike "chain" that I used on my 40cc scooter in Sacramento and I left it unattended in less than nice places and it wasn't stolen. It doesn't even use a key to start, just ...

Who all uses locks and what kind and where do you secure it around? Only "easy" place I can find for securing a lock/chain is around the hole in the kick stand. Next easiest places would be the frame under the running board or the frame just inside where the petcock is. Since the cover is ...

Well, if you compare it to a new Honda Metropolitan at an MSRP of nearly $2,000, $1100 doesn't seem so bad for a "new" condition one with a title and all documents. and no warranty. But half the price. Some people can afford $1100 but not $2200 (by the time you had on tax and all f...

When I first bought this scooter (40cc, 2 cycle, weights about 60lbs I think, top speed about 28-30mph for me)... http://cubey.illiop.com/pics/displayimage.php?album=26&pos=0 .. I used Red Line 2-cycle racing oil (synthetic) as suggested by the salesman, No, he didn't sell it in his shop. In fac...

There is a Honda place locally here too. I need to get a few spares made as well. I got one Honda-branded plastic head key with my Spree.

Gas & Oil Question

What grade of gasoline do you guys use? As i recall I was told for 2 cycle engines its best to run the highest octane gas (93 or so) for better combustion. What brand of oil do you use? I know its best to use "injector" oil. On the Mosquito scooter I previous rode, it lacked injection and ...

Those screws (except the bowl drain, of course) only affect idle. Just FYI. -aseigler Ahh. Okay. Must be a bit different from the 2 cycle carb on another scooter I'm used to adjusting. Got to the point I had to adjust the dang thing every time I cranked it up as after I got it working the last time...

Yup, that's exactly what it is. 84 - 85 Spree came with a battery that would spew acid out that hose sometimes. 86 - 87 came with sealed battery. If you put a sealed battery in an 84 - 85, that hose just kinda sits there doing nothing. -aseigler Ah, ok good. Was hoping it was something odd like tha...
