Re: Roller Balancing
One day when I'm bored out of my mind, I might consider making a modified roulette wheel with channels (so that the weighted balls can only move from the center of the wheel to the outer perimeter in a straight line like a variator). The reason why I don't believe my theory is flawed is based upon m...

Re: Roller Balancing
So I must have slept through that physics lecture, because intuitively I would think the heavier weights would want to spin out farther with less rotational force than the lighter weights. That being said, what does having mixed weights gain you? Do heavier weights equal a higher top end speed, and...

Re: OKO variator problem?
Hehe, thx for the nice comment. I don't recommend to anyone to visually check the belt while they're riding. As you said, checking it on the center stand is sufficient. It helps if you have 2 people to do this, you need 1 person to watch the belt and rear pulley, while the other person controls the ...

Re: Roller Balancing
I'm going to try to take a stab at this discussion. First of all, remember that it's the combined weight that allows the pulley to move towards the direction of the driveface. Lighter rollers due to their lighter mass will want to move out towards the outer edge of the variator sooner than the heavi...

Re: OKO variator problem?
Is your belt jumping around when you're accelerating? Otherwise take off the variator, ramp plate, ramp guides, weights and boss gear. Now hopefully it's cool enough to hold in your hand. Assemble the variator assembly with the boss gear and see if the boss gear slides through the variator smoothly ...

Re: PG LONG interest?
PG Long is a pretty good pipe for 72cc, nice sound and it's very easy to tune. It's considered the jack of all trades pipe. For 50cc, unless you really know what you're doing I would serious recommend not using it for that purpose as there are much better pipes for 50cc out there than a PG Long, go ...

Re: 98 Octane in an 87 Spree
In 2 strokes it's a little harder to tell. One way is to check the plug, if it's white, blistering or the electrode is damaged, it's naturally quite obvious. The other way is to monitor its symptoms. If you don't have a CHT gauge, it's a good move to get one. Spikes in heat when it's under load but ...

Re: 98 Octane in an 87 Spree
My engine is stock and my manual says to use 87 octane so that's what I use. I am sure Mr. Honda and his engineers know more about this motor than I do. That should work. Remember that octane isn't a static measurement as it's averaged between Rated Octane + Motor Octane divided by 2. (R + M /2) De...

Re: 98 Octane in an 87 Spree
There's a lot of misinformation about octane and engines that it surprises me when even the mechanics don't understand the topic. The short story is you only want to use as much octane as your engine needs, for every extra octane your fuel has that your engine cannot use, you lose power. Octane is t...

Re: Has anyone successfully Turbo/Supercharged one of these?
but boost is more fun, guys. :P Personally I'd prefer a finely tuned all motor setup over a FI setup anyday. Granted the spike in power can be fun in the straights there's no fun or skill involved in cracking open the throttle wide open on the straights, any goof can do that. The real speed is in t...

Re: Polini cyl claims
Yeah, the tricky part about moped tuning is that it's never really about 1 part, rather the cumulative of what you're using. The most important factor that outweighs nearly everything is the pipe that you plan to use since everything is tuned to the pipe and never the bore. I've emailed Polini to se...

Re: ped dying out
How old is the plug? If it's old replace with new one and try again.
Maybe the spark not jumping strong enough or the gap too wide from being old.

Re: ped dying out
First, check the petcock, see if it's working correctly.
Then check the float. When it dies out next time, stop the bike then pull the bowl out and see if there's fuel.
Check the conditions of the reeds. Bad reeds will affect lower rpm operation more than higher rpms.
Is the carb clean?
