Re: se 50 p
OK, Noob question: How do you hold the drive face gear to remove the bolt and gain access to the variator? I have a belt/filter wrench that works nicely for the clutch bell, but I cannot use that on this, even if the starter gear wasn't in the way. Any help? I have another variator but it doesn't lo...

Re: SE50P Turn signal beep?
Got the beeper removed; a separate unit independent of the blinker relay, a small Archer horn. Funny, one of the leads is spliced in so someone apparently liked it enough to keep it in there. Blinker still clicks like normal. Dare I say, that was easy?

Re: SE50P Turn signal beep?
It really is like a horn, not a click. Might even be a click in addition to the beep. I would have thought it was shorting out the horn if I didn't hear it coming from the relay area under the speedo.

SE50P Turn signal beep?
My 1987 Elite 50/SE50P squeals/beeps from the relay under the instrument panel instead of a signal "click". This is distracting to motorists and annoying to me, is this what it is supposed to do? Can I disable and still have signals? Please advise.

Re: Bystarter question
Got it to start and run; rides very well, so different than my Spree. Still a little off from the factory air screw setting but it seems to run well. I need a tachometer to test the idle speed but it sounds right.

Re: Bystarter question
I FOUND A PROBLEM: A rodent had chewed the the insulation off portions of three of the wires on the CDI connection. After repairing the wires, I now have spark. d*** I should have checked before I messed with the carb. Gonna try to return the settings to they were before I messed with them and hope ...

Re: Bystarter question
Hoping it is a wire; guess I have to invest in a tester or wait for my mechanic to call me back. I am guessing/hoping it is not alternator related as last night when I was kicking it over again and again, I noticed the instrument panel lights pulsing on. This would lead me to believe that the igniti...

Re: Bystarter question
I pulled the plug and it was wet, it is getting fuel. But now for whatever reason I have no spark? Pulled the plug, touched it to some metal and I cannot see/hear any spark. Everything looks connected, all I did was take the one side cover off to remove the exhaust/change the tires. What could have ...

Re: Bystarter question
Yes I am holding the brake when starting. I found that the starting position for the air/mix screw is 1.5 turns out. How about the throttle stop screw, where should I have this to start. I just need to get it to fire/run again and then I can adjust more. This thing started up on one kick four days a...

Re: Bystarter question
I have the service manual, but it says to "turn the screws til they seat, noting the number of turns"; therefore it doesn't actually state the setting. It mentions the air/mix screw being at 1 3/8ths turns out but also says it must be set with the engine warmed up. Mine will not start now....

Bystarter question
I had a guy get my 1987 elite 50/SE50P running. He said he had the idle up a little high but that it has an electronic choke and that once it warms up it would settle down; didn't run real high but started up on a single kick. I did not have a battery in it when he got it running. It sat indoors for...

Re: Compression test on non-running elite
Bear: You are the only one listening.... So the carb float is held on with that little "axle" via the screw. I have that screw tightened right down, and there is movement of the float up/down. There is that small pivot point piece that sits under the float; I have the point end down and th...

Re: Compression test on non-running elite
A previous post dealt with the compression and spark tests that I had performed; you had replied with a suggestion to clean the carb...my questions are: 1) does the bystarter not being (hooked up) electrically cause the bike not too start? Too much gas? 2) Where should the idle stop screw be set on ...

Re: Compression test on non-running elite
After 4-5 kick start attempts I open up the drain screw and it pours clean gas. Plug is wet.
