Greetings:
Sheesh! For that amount, you'd think he'd at least keep it out of the rain. Still 329 miles, it's attractive. More so for around $800.

Title Segue
Greetings: RoadCapDen, doing his best Robert DuVall imitation, sez: "RCD loves the smell of 2 stroke smoke in the morning.div" So you've seen the movie too? Good segue back to the thread title! :) I'd really like to know what coating the 1974 Arctic Cat snowmobiles used on their exhausts. ...

'87 Aero Variator & 65 cc Kit Q
Greetings: Got the variator & clutch off. http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/2835/hfholdercr8.jpg http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/hfholdercr8.jpg/1/w640.png This HF tool was a big help - about ten bucks! It's not as useful as an impact wrench, but got the job done and the price was right! It'...

Bystarter&Public Acceptance
Greetings:
You're probably right about the bystarter making the 2-strokes acceptable. When it fails however, those of us with experience on these smokers long for a cable instead.

Dead Bat. and Beyond
Greetings: I had not thought through your battery question. My own Interstate sealed gel battery is not only dead, but internally disconnected. Despite a label sticker from February 2006 it reads 0.000000 volts and infinite Ohms. In that case, I don't think anything electrical can run - no ground! I...

Pre-Mix Apocalypse?
Greetings: My Stock '87 Aero is approaching countdown, needing only a battery and fuel system sundry parts to get ready for first kick in at least 7 years. I have squirted 10 cc of Honda-san-approved 2-stroke oil into the plug hole and gently spun 'er over a couple times. I plan to perform the oil t...

Greetings: Before you go monkeying with the kill switch - and I suspect that there are other interlocks - just check for spark. Unscrew the plug, ground it reliably and give 'er a kick. If there's a visible spark of any color but black, it's not a switching problem. Despite your admirable carb-clean...

Greetings: The needle I have was in the carb when I got it. It presumably ran at one time. The odometer says 2901 miles. That was a long, long time ago. I do not recall ever seeing brass (!) so pitted and gouged from riding in an aluminum bore. I cleaned it up with a small diamond file just to see i...

Summarize the Problem
Greetings: When did it last run? Everything an engine sucks in always goes out the pipe. Reed valves = one-way flow. Combusted or not, it'll end up in the muffler. Is it a bit cool up there in BC? The Bystarter is the mechanism to support combustion until the engine is warm enough to run off the mai...

Float Tab Adjustment
Greetings: The replacement float that came in the rebuild kit (you know, the one with out the float needle...) appears to be composed entirely of plastic. I can bend the tab, but it returns to its molded set. I agree care is well-advised to avoid breaking it off entirely. Measurement methods appreci...

Question: Adjusting Float Level '87 Aero
Greetings:
Service manual describes measuring process but not very well. Something about 0.48 inches.
"If out of spec, replace float" it says. What if it's a new float? I read here that the tab can be bent to restore proper level. Can someone advise how to doo this?

Carburetor Cleaning - A Couple More "Gotchas"
Greetings: I have learned. I wish to share. Careful readers here know how important a clean idle circuit. It's so fine and easily plugged. I have found a couple more things to be careful about: http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/970/bystarterbowlqu6.jpg http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/bystarterbo...
