Greetings:
I'd dip it in denatured alcohol, then repeat carb-cleaning spritz. But that's just me.

Greetings: No, the water in the mixture won't damage brass, aluminum or steel parts, as long as it's dried before assembly. Mineral spirits, paint thinner, acetone, even gasoline would have been a better choice to mix with your carb cleaner. Yeah, I know gasoline is volatile and flammable, but carb ...

Greetings: The ultrasonic cleaner works wonders on all kinds of things. We use it to clean surgical instruments BUT without seeing your particular machine, there's no way to tell if it's spark-producing. Sparks will have a negative effect on the condition of the surrounding structure if you add a fl...

Greetings: If it ran last week and not since it does not need a rebuild. The parts do not suddenly wear out while it's sitting. If there was spark then and now, I'll presume your electrical system is an unlikely cause for your non-starting. Definitely screw in a new plug. Then I'd check out the fuel...

Greetings: I'm about to crimp up some alligator clips to try this very thing. 12 volts seldom causes injury unless you're soaking in brine and can't get out. Ever tongue a 9V dry cell? :P Most chargers have a polarity reversal protector of some sort, but try not to touch the wires together. If the p...

Greg Stong's Rebuilds
Greetings: I have corresponded with Greg. I agree that he has a wealth of knowledge about these carbs, but mine's OK now - ll rebuilt. It's just the float valve/needle got too brittle to provide a good seal. The petcock is non-rebuildable as far as I can tell. The Beast  has been chewing on...

Puddle of Gasoline: The Beast Moves Downstream
Greetings: I guess I got a little *. I was feeling pretty darned smug about conquering the Fuel Residue Ecosystem living in my fuel tank AKA The Beast  (See Petrified Tank Saga) I thought I had also resurrected the vacuum petcock too. I put it on the tank last night and added a cup of fuel....

Clean Tank: The Beast Is Vanquished (or is he?)
Greetings: Whoever it was that suggested throwing a fistful of hardware in with the tank Dip, thank you! Having nothing better to do, I let the tank soak 24 hours on its THIRD(!) cycle, then set to agitatin'. Just rocking the tank back and forth for oh, maybe 20 minutes. (Had I been thinking, I woul...

NB50 Fuel Tank
Greetings: I may have to purchase another tank if I cannot defeat The Beast  . I have the original 1987 vacuum petcock, which uses a different size and thread pitch on the tank fitting from the '87. Fortunately I was able (I think) to resurrect the original petcock and also to fabricate an ...

The Beast Subdued
Greetings: I've got The Beast  on the ropes. The tank sat soaking in my home-made Dip all weekend. Now I can see more metal than scum looking in. I plan to finish him off with the suggestions I've received. Thanks for your kindness. Cycle 3 began last night with another batch of Dip. I keep...

My Other Scooter
Greetings: I thought I'd post a photo of my Sportster. It's a 2002 1200 S, purchased new in November 2001. The S stands for the brilliantly redundant Sporster Sport. HD is not known for its clever nomenclature. FXDWSEI-III and such. This bike is a Blockhead Evo design introduced in 1985 when the H-D...
