ORG/CRS

Greetings:

Dude, I wishI could be retired. Still too many bills to pay and a 4-year-old's college to consider. As for old, despite my poll checkbox response, I still bicycle about 100 miles a week, + run or work out almost daily. Still, I suffer from occasional bouts of CRS.

Greetings: Teoce says: I picked up a '97 Elite SA50P for cheap - it had no compression. How cheap is cheap? I took off the cylinder and head, and sure enough the top ring was cracked. The cylinder walls were tore up of course so I am having it bored .25 over. .25 what? American and Metric systems di...

Greetings: PirlGirl has compression, spark and fuel. Starts on Kick, spins but will not start electrically. Is it possible that somehow the operation of the starter circuit leaves insufficient juice to power the ignition simultaneously? Seems unlikely, as the current draw of a starter motor is far g...

Scooters and Computers

Greetings:

Now comes Dennie41 to torpedo the misconception that anyone who remembers the Beatles is incapable of comprehending the concept of email. I've got a screen full of postage stamps to prove otherwise.

Ride on!

How Old? Well Uh, I Don't Remember...

Greetings: Dirt = younger than the Wheelman. Actually I had to check the first box in your poll. Thanks a lot, Bear! I misspent my youth in the Great White North tinkering with snowmobiles in winter and a couple of minibikes + a Kawasaki 90 ring-ding + outboards in summer. At that time, snowmo...

Greetings: A petcock malfunction + a fouled float needle can result in a puddle of gasoline under your bike. If you don't think that's a hazard, then you don't need to repair or replace your petcock. Just don't hang out with sloppy smokers. See if you can clean/repair your petcock first. The ...

Little Victories

Greetings Typing from BB. Got home to find throttle slide pulled right off. Poured dip solvent into tank. Set to work on brushing carb parts as clean as 24 hour soak allowed, then carb parts went into NAPA carb dunk. Still no light from idle circuit orifice. Tank may be a lost cause, but I'm in no hu...

Greetings: Yes, I have the kit parts & new float ready to go. Can't get past Step 1: Remove the throttle cable cap and pull out the slide... I took the float bowl out and YANKED the float needle out of there. The carb is dangling by its throttle cable in a container of my homemade Dip. The float...

Greetings: The low-speed idle MIXTURE screw is usucally inserted over a small coil spring whose role is (in part) to keep pressure on the threads and prevent the screw from randomly turning with engine vibration, etc. The spring fits all the way inside the carb, so you couldn't see it under normal o...

Tank & Carb Contents, 7 Years Later

Greetings: O Wise Collective, I seek thy wisdom: The Previous Owner bought a carb kit, new petcock, some (Yamaha) tank rust neutralizer and various other parts. Problem was he never got around to installing any of it! The tank sat with tape - blue masking tape - over the filler hole for seven (7) ye...

Short and sweet is good. Float could be the problem, maybe not. Cracked fuel line at the carb + defective petcock could do it too. It's a siimple thing to check before you pull the carb.

Greetings: Fuel flow is gravity-dependent. Because the carb has to be open to the air - to mix with the fuel when the engine is running, think of the carb as an open pipe dangling below the tank. It is a drain. Because liquid wants to flow down a drain Mr. Honda designed in two obstructions to this ...
