Re: What to do about tires...
Wheelman, to your knowledge, the dimensions are all the same except for the drum diameter(80mm to 95mm) and rim width(1.85" to 2.15"), so my spacers and cables will all still work, right? I installed the rear Met wheel last week, so I know that is a direct replacement.

Re: What to do about tires...
What years in particular? I've seen pictures of a '98 and an '01 brake panel. They definitely look different than my '87 panel, but if they'll work for me, I'll pick one up.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:
If you can find a later Elite 95mm brake panel, the Metropolitan tubeless rim designed for 90/90 fits directly.

Re: What to do about tires...
Good catch. I was calculating percentages off of sidewall height, and not outside diameter, lol. I'm not comfortable running a 90/90 on my 1.85" front wheel, but a 3.00" should be safe because that's what is on late model elites with the same 1.85" wheels. I came up with a little more...

Re: What to do about tires...
On the scooters, a front 90/90 reads about as close to true as you'll find. A 3.50 actually reads a bit lower than true. Thanks for the info, Wheelman. Does the above statement apply to later elites that came with 3.00" tires, or elites like mine that came with 2.75" tires? **Faulty calcu...

Re: What to do about tires...
2000 miles!!! id say thats pretty good for a small scooter tire. I was thinking the same thing, lol! My 87 elite only has 1600 miles on it. Of course, it took a while at only 25 mph! Even though we can get 45 mph now, it'll only see 500 to 600 miles a year, but I share drizzle's concern about...

What to do about tires...
I'm having difficulty trying to decide on tires for my elite. I'm running a 2.75 up front and a 90/90 on a met wheel in back. I wish to stay 2.75 up front for speedometer purposes. My dilemma is trying to find a matched set. The only matched set I've been able to find is the Kenda K329. They are pro...

the elite with a 1.85x10 inch rim and 3.00 tires, is 18psi up front, and 33psi in back. i was wonderring what they say the dio to run for the tires front and back. My 87 came with 2.75" tires and calls for 18psi front and 28psi rear. Have you tested with an alternate gauge? Does it feel soft t...

Re: My 87 se50p Iowa just buried the speedometer!
**UPDATE** I installed a Metropolitan rear wheel with a 90/90 tire along with a 45mph speedometer panel today. On the first ride, my wife hit exactly 45mph on a straight, flat road by our house. This would suggest that we picked up around 4mph going with the 90/90 tire. She says she noticed no loss ...

Metropolitan rear wheel with a 90/90 owners.....
What tire pressure are you running with your 90/90? I set the pressure at 28psi cold, and my wife says the 90/90 feels a little squirrelly going around corners as opposed to the 2.75 that it replaced. The wheel appears to be very straight and true to my eye, but I did not set up a dial indicator. An...

Re: My 87 se50p Iowa just buried the speedometer!
You're right, I can see how the belt dyno would be handy because you can check the sensors while the engine is under load-- even if you can't get a helpful power number, you can at least get accurate tempurature and oxygen counts... In defense of Scooter Therapy, I needed a jet because I lost my #82...

Re: My 87 se50p Iowa just buried the speedometer!
That is a shame, the first bad thing I've heard about them. What's the bad thing? Yup, or a belt dyno. I'm unfamiliar with belt dynometers. Are those what they use on PTO shafts and such? In reality though, would you be able to detect the difference of a few jet sizes on a dyno? I think I may have ...

Re: My 87 se50p Iowa just buried the speedometer!
I installed the #85 jet tonight, and my wife is happy! The #90 was a little big for this elite as the throttle response was a bit muddy. It has strong acceleration right from take-off, so now I just need to source a metropolitan wheel and a 90/90 tire. I should have the 45 mph gauge panel for it wit...

3 mph is substantial. Was that difference at top speed, or uniform throughout the powerband?martynkim wrote:I tried it. I lost 3 mph on the speedo.
Are you still running the 3.0 on front or did you go back to 2.75?

Re: Going from 2.75r10 to 3.0r10 front tire?
I estimated about 3% from some O.D. numbers I found at kendausa.com, but they were different models so it was a low accuracy guess; no idea about the rubbing...odinxxix wrote:i think wheelman posted that it was about 3% but i could be wrong. thats if it will fit with out rubbing
