Re: '86 Spree tune-up
Do it youself for sure. It's so easy if you follow the carb cleaning thread. It has pics of every step. I did it and I'm an idiot.
It'll run like a sewing machine when these guys are done with you.
Pics please.

Re: It died...
I found a chunk of dirt wedging one of the reeds open. I sprayed them down and wiped the area with a qtip. I believe the reeds was what finally got it going.
May be a combination of reeds, plug, and cracked piston that started this thread but after ring job it was definately reeds.

Re: It died...
Thanks for all the replies. Yep, i have spark and it's running now. I think it was a combination of reeds with a chunk of dirt stuck in one, the cracked piston, and a potentially fouled plug from running lean when that air screw fell out. I know have a nice 85 with new rings, a domed 86 piston and a...

Re: It died...
Yeah, it's cheap. In fact, there was a chunk of metal in hole where they drilled it out. Man, if I didn't see that and it fell into my case it'd be over for for my engine.

Re: It died...
Brad I never saw where you actually checked the spark. 70 compression, with a cold engine that has never run? You had your throttle held open? How accurate and sensitive is your gauge? 70 should be enough to make a fire providing the carb and ignition system are doing their jobs. Sorry. Yes, it was...

Re: It died...
I knew you would ask that so i went out and pulled the intake. I found there was a chunk of dirt about the size of a mouse turd wedging the left one open. I removed it and it snapped back. I re-tested the compression and still no change. How do i remove the entire reed block? That's on there TIGHT! ...

Re: It died... Updated
My rings and gasket came in and I installed them using the 86 piston, 86 cylinder, 85 head. It wouldn't start so I tested the compression and it was only 70 psi! WITH NEW RINGS! I made sure everything was tight and still no change in compression. I took off the muffler (it was in the way) and for th...

Re: Project mayhem
My brother and I just had this conversation. I said, "your problem is that you start stuff and don't finish it. I don't have that problem. I just don't start sht."

Re: It died...
Thanks, Wheelman.
I was going to take you up on your offer but i have a piston and cylinder from my 86 that i'm going to use w/my 85 head (per your suggestion). I'll let you know if i blow things up. I may need yours!
Got any mirrors?

Wait...
If i use that combo, what about my muffler? Will the 85 muffler bolt onto the 86 exhaust?

Re: It died...
OK. Then here's the list:
86 cylinder
86 piston
85 head
I'll order some 86 rings and gaskets. I'm assuming the head gaskets are interchangeable since i'll be mating an 86 cylinder w/an 85 head?
Questions. Questions.

Re: It died...
It looks just the opposite: 85 is dished, 86 is domed. Yes, please let me know what combination to use with the 86 piston. I have: 85 cylinder 85 head 86 cylinder 86 head Wheelman was telling me that the 85 head and an 86 domed piston improved performance. If I use that combo, which cylinder would i...
