Re: Lights stay on when battery connected-even with key off
Resolved (mostly): It was a hack rewire job by the previous owner. The regulator was smoked and they removed the inline fuse and replaced it with a regular-ol wire. I bough a 6.5 am fuse/holder from radioshack and a regulator and *fixed* that issue. I think i blew my headlamp, though. It's out (when...

Re: Petcock - 85 vs 86
Thank you. I used the 85 sender. The 'nut' that holds down the sender into the tank (the huge gold thing that spins) is not as tight as the one i removed, but think it should work. Need to wire in an inline fuse (that was hacked out by P.O.) before I fire it up.

Petcock - 85 vs 86
My tank on the 85 was LOADED with rust, so i put the tank from my 86 Parts-o-matic. I noticed the nut on the 85 petcock is smaller than the 86. If i use the 86 tank and the 86 petcock on my 85, is that ok? Same flow specs, etc. Also, there is an additional wire on the 86 fuel sender. The 85 has two ...

Fuse location? Hack job?
I'm investigating my 85 Spree electrical issues. Noticed this red wire going to the battery has this spliced wire where I assume the fuse would be. I looked on my other Spree (parts-o-matic 86) and saw this yellow wire spliced in with a fuse inline. Which is correct? I'm guessing neither: http://img...

Re: Got one (finally)
Here's what I did wrong: When i misaligned the throttle in the carb, I must have mashed that plastic tab enough to prohibit the throttle from sliding into the carb. I verified and re-verified that i have the slot aligned with the tab but it wouldn't go. I removed the carb from my other Spree, lined ...

Re: Newbie
Back in day, i bought a 'map pocket' for my 86 Spree. It was held on with two metal clamps that wrapped around to the front leg shield. There is a document floating around the forum showing all of the add-ons you can get for the Spree, like floor mats, baskets, and the map pocket.

Re: Got one (finally)
I got it seated correctly now. Thanks! I actually removed the carb to find that tab and got it down all the way. Question (which i can post in the Tech section if needed): I seem to remember my old Spree throttles would spring back to 'off' when you let go. This one does not. Would the adjustment un...

Re: Lights stay on when battery connected-even with key off
I had it running for the first time last night via a jump start from my tractor battery. As you said, once it's running the battery is out of the picture and the alternator does the work. As soon as i removed the jumper cable from the battery, it stopped running. I'll bet you're right - something is...

Re: Got one (finally)
She's aliiiive! Sort of Another carb cleaning, new plug and tried to start it. It ran for a second so I followed Turtle's advice and held my hand over the hole in the air box to choke it and it started. Smoked like a stoner for a while then cleared up. But... i don't think i seated the throttle cabl...

Re: Got one (finally)
BTW: When i was home in Michigan visiting my parents, I found the old body panels and a perfect seat to my 85 in the attic. The body panels still have my registration sticker from 1985 on it!

Re: Got one (finally)
Yeah, they were out in Tonganoxie. Super nice guy selling them and the price was right for two! Cleaned the carb on the 85 today. It was FILTHY! Ran for 5 seconds then died. There is fuel at the carb drain so next stop is spark. I ordered some plugs from O'riley's and should have them tomorrow. Man,...
