Carb Cleaning is Still Good Advice

Greetings: F9 was becoming increasingly fussy to start, until the other day I couldn't get it to do more than idle at 1200. Any throttle caused instant stall. F7EngineL_resized.jpg Time-tested Board advice was put to the test again, this time with the assistance of 16 year-old Wheel-boy, who helped ...

Re: 87 se50 rear wheel

Greetings: Yes, Honda changed the hub spline count or diameter on the very late Metro models - perhaps with the factory move to another country - in 2015 or so, but the 2002 - 2014 (or so) hubs and central 3-spoke wheel spiders appear identical to the Elites'. Only the rim is wider. I've had Met whe...

Greetings:

UPGRADE Opportunity! The pre-2015 Metropolitan wheels are a direct, trouble-free bolt-on replacement with a vast 2.15" (instead of 1.85") width, allowing perfectly-proportioned use of the 90/90 x10" tire.

Re: My '86 Gyro so far...

Greetings:

Sweet details, Guzzi! Now can we please see the whole Enchilada?

As for acceleration on a Gyro, I have no direct experience but Forum enthusiasts have trimmed it down to three easy steps:

1. Roll the Gyro into the bed of a 2019 Ford Raptor pickup.

2. Floor it!

Re: Stock dd50, curious, newb builder.

Greetings: Not sure what the rules are in Hawai'i for "Safety", but it's unlikely that the inspectors will pull a head to measure piston diameter. Just don't get ticketed for doing 65MPH on a "50cc" scooter, which a well-tuned modified DD is quite capable of achieving. Modding is fun - well for some...

Greetings:

Very painstaking careful work Nate!
See if there's a way to fabricate a bracket to support the weight of that big carb. I have READ (No direct experience) that those rubber carb flanges can fatigue and crack, letting air in.

Re: 2-stroke resurgence!

Greetings: Very businesslike. You can bet with all the top-shelf carbon exotica it won't be cheap. Microprocessor-controlled direct injection meters fuel to near-perfection, reducing Hydrocarbon emissions. I'll bet it has a recirculating lubrication system too. But will it retain that intoxicating 2...

Greetings:

It sounds like the engine is sucking a substantial amount of air from someplace. Carb/manifold seal and many, many other places need to be examined.

Re: 1985 iowa honda spree and new member. Need help please.

Greetings:

Low compression may or may not be due to rings. Check both crsnk seals and do compression test with reeds on and well-sealed and carb removed or throttle wide open. If still low, post WTB for a stock cylinder . People take them off when installing big bore kits....

Re: Af16 Assistance / Build

Greetings: Polini contessa is a good kit. No need for gears shorter than 9:1, even a stock 50cc can pull those over 45MPH. Mine with stock carb And exhaust will do 50 upwind all day. Welcome to the madness. BTW sometimes seals fail because they are old. Sometimes it is a bad bearing or wobbly crank....

It is great fun! Your plan to replace every other 7g with an 8g is sound. Make changes of 2-3 grams TOTAL LOAD at a time so you don't overshoot.

I bought a cheap one from Amazon or fEeBaY or someplace, around $25, worked great. Even came with stick-on gram weights.
