Re: af16 build
Greetings: This is in the realm of Alchemy, where trial-and-error determine success. Only problem is you don't have a hundred cylinder castings and cranks to try out like the Factory if the first guess blows up. 44.1 (the "standard" MiniStroke crank from various places...) minus 41.4 equal...

Re: 82cc AF16 Odd Lean Condition
Greetings:
Your symptoms are very suspicious for an air leak. If you can get to idle, spray something flammable (Carb cleaner?) around the intake manifold, base gasket, head gasket and don't forget the crank end seals. If the idle changes speed you have your leak.

Re: Help with '87 Spree :-(
Greetings: Assuming the crank end seals aren't leaking AND the base and head gaskets are good AND your new reeds are sound, I would check the bore. Might be worth a look/cleanout of the intake side too. That compression doesn't seem right unless the cylinder itself is bad or there's a leak someplace.

Re: What size carb?
Greetings: There was a time on this Forum when everyone would cheer for a 28mm OKO. It turns out, the top end might (arguably) be OK, but it was a Bear to tune at idle and midrange. Then Folks discovered that smaller carbs, certainly nothing bigger than a 24 would give just as much top end and be MU...

Re: 86 spree kickstart stuck
Greetings: Random Thoughts: Bushings do get worn with time. If the wear allows the shaft to become "diagonal" in the bushing, lube may help but not for long. I'm not sure the parts could be found new, but perhaps someone has a cover assembly lying around? If not, try again with the thickes...

Re: what is that sqeal sound??
Greetings: I recommend you re-read the suggestions. It's going to require some disassembly to identify. I find it easier to pull the engine from the frame and work on a bench where you're not squatting and cussing to get at fasteners. "Whatever's rubbing will leave a mark..." seems like th...

Re: Cheap exhaust dilemma, 2001 SA50
Greetings: On the advice of Forumista who have been goofing with these little buzzers even longer than I have, I deleted and plugged the pump socket long ago. The addition of extra oil for break-in is unnecessary, and the pump adds a variable that's almost impossible to estimate. If you're pre-mixin...

Greetings: If it sat long enough to fill the crankcase, I believe I spreak pretty much for all the Denizens of this Esteemed Forum when I say REMOVE that random Asian clone and CLEAN THE STOCK CARB. You did a lot of work with that long list of things, and removing and dismantling the Honda stock car...

Re: 1985 spree - can you prime?
Greetings:
Yes Mike, I think the same way. I wonder if the inlet for the bystarter circuit sits up higher. It takes a lot of crank time for the vacuum fuel valve to trickle enough fuel in any case.

Re: 1985 spree - can you prime?
Greetings: Hmm, I'm not quite sure that this behavior represents a Clear Problem. Flash 9 is an Elite with a similar stock carb to the Spree's. If it sits for 1 to 3 days, it usually starts on the first kick. After 4 or more days, it takes 6-10 kicks to fire. On the rare occasions when it goes more ...

Re: Cheap exhaust dilemma, 2001 SA50
Greetings: Contesta 72 is a "Sport" bore, not "Racing". It makes decent torque down low, but doesn't need a chamber-type pipe because it won't go much above 9K due to porting. I run the stock Honda exhaust on mine, AND stock airbox with Noisy-guy filter, AND stock PA carb jetted ...

Re: Is it my shock?
Greetings: I've never seen a shock spring "wear out" to such a degree, but even if it has lost its "spring" the chassis design shouldn't let things bump against the bodywork even at full compression. Have a friend get down there with a camera and evaluate what's bumping into the ...

Re: Self prime vacuum petcock
Greetings: Primer bulbs are inline, and a squeeze on the bulb results in fuel being pumped through the bulb and along the line to the engine. Gravity-fed scooter carbs really don't need this, but DO need the vacuum petcock to open and allow fuel to drop into the evaporated carb bowl. I don't see how...

Re: Self prime vacuum petcock
Greetings: I did this some time (11 years?) back. A "T" fitting and a 1-way valve is needed. The 1 way valves were a feature on old Dodge Ram vans, vacuum-operating the ducts for Defrost, Dash and Feet. I'm not sure if autoparts stores still stock them. Tap into the vacuum line with the T....
