From there it would lead me to believe that there is either a problem with the ignition system, or that the carb is so our of whack or not working...

Might sound like a dumb question, but is the bowl actually dull of fuel? Just wondering if there was enough vacuum applied to the petcock to fill the carb?

It's obvious what the noise is and what is causing it.

It is so easy to remove the entire engine assembly. Only takes a few minutes. Much easier to have the entire thing on a bench to work on instead of trying fish around while its still on the bike.

No problem. If you want an Elite headlamp to try out for firment, I have an extra stock one as well as a stock one modified with an HID bulb if you wanted to borrow one.
