Re: Just did 48mm bbk and oil leaks from exhaust
Low rpm's are extremely rough. Once I get moving to about 6-7mph, it wakes up and purrs to 15mph. That's as fast as Ive gone then I let off. Im taking it real slow and easy. Its the 0-7mph range that it doesn't seem to be happy with. Does that have to do with the extra "break-in period" oi...

Re: Wheres the best place to get NQ50 starter bendix?
I just looked again and the teeth don't look terrible...just worn. Could there be another reason why my starter doesn't engage like 50% of the time? The spring mechanism is completely free and springs back without any binding when I fiddle with it by hand. Will try to get pics up in a sec.

Just did 48mm bbk and oil leaks from exhaust
85' NQ50. Just did the Taz 48mm bbk upgrade and Im in the break-in period with 50/1 mix. After my short trips at low speed/rpm for break-in, I notice oil leaking from the connection at the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe. My gasket looked ok (I thought) so I just re-used my old one. Its not leakin...

Wheres the best place to get NQ50 starter bendix?
The teeth on my starter are trashed and seems to spin/grind about half the time when im trying to start it. Since I have an 85' with NO kickstart, the starter is my lifeblood. Besides just rolling the dice on Ebay and buying a used one, is there a place to buy new/rebuilt?

Re: Leaking gas 85 spree nq50
I'd put in synthetic oil and fill the final drive case to about half an inch from the fill hole and top it off with Lucas oil additive. That will hopefully quiet things down and of the bearings are toast it will still be in need of repair but if they are fine the noise should be quieter or go away....

Piece of metal with holes on NQ50 exhaust? Is it Needed?
What is that additional piece of metal on the exhaust for on the NQ50? One the screws was loose on mine and rattling so I tried to tighten it and it broke off! Can I just take it off and pitch it or should I find a welder? Im thinking its a heat shield so as not to burn your leg after a ride. Though...

How can I tell if theres a bbk on my scoot?
I was reading the instructions for the 48mm bbk and it says to drill holes in the top of the airbox cover. When I bought my 85 Spree, it had holes drilled in it already. Does that mean theres been a bbk installed? How can I tell? FYI, I haven't purchased a bbk. I was just reading the instructions po...

If you had a bone stock 85' NQ50..what would you do to it?
I have an 85' NQ50 bone stock. 3600mi and runs great. Not sure which route I should take with it. Id like to be able to run 35mph so it would expand my travel area around town but then Im thinking I should just enjoy it as-is...Im torn. Please tell me what you guys would do. I definitely want reliab...

Re: 85 Spree dies on hard acceleration
Heres another noob question...Why are there holes drilled in the top of my air box? They don't look factory and just doesn't seem right. Was this someones attempt to add performance by increasing airflow and turning the fuel way up? By the way, I covered the holes with duct tape during my maintenanc...

Re: 85 Spree dies on hard acceleration
After cleaning the carb, testing the petcock for proper operation, draining/cleaning the fuel tank and fill with fresh gas, checking/cleaning/oiling the air filter and replacing the spark plug...it STILL choked on WOT after 15mph. Then I started playing with the fuel mixture. While running on the st...

Re: 85 Spree dies on hard acceleration
Previous owner claims she rode it all the time around town and the "throttle feathering" has been like that for a long time. Is there a decent write-up on carb cleaning for these? The couple youtube videos I watched were done by complete idiots. One guy even used a swiss army knife to remo...

85 Spree dies on hard acceleration
I just picked up an unmolested 85 Spree from a little old lady with all original parts. Its real clean and everything works but it struggles upon acceleration. Up on the stand it revs just fine when I "blip" the throttle. Sounds healthy all the way up the RPM range. Different story when I ...
