Air filter, is it in good shape, is it even there? Air box lid, is it there and on securely? Additionally is the boot from the air box to the carb on securely and tight?

I can testify to the malossi Kevlar hindering a stock setup. I have one but ended up using a used stock belt as the Kevlar added nothing but issues. Hopefully

I would just get a new one, I've played with a few that had been opened up and never got a decent run with any. Looks like you have the heat guard, that's worth more than the pipe in my opinion, mine are all missing that. I have an extra pipe I'm not doing anything with if you're interested.

Correct type yes, I use an old booger sucker from my kids baby years but an oral syringe works to, could leak from gasket around housing? If so usually right at the bottom of the case.
