One Suggestion

Greetings: I don't intend to use a gasket- maker as a preservative. I have used Yamabond and Hylomar for other applications as a temporary replacement for a missing gasket, but I can see lots of Bad Things coming from using it with a gasket. Just a few kernels of pre-hardened material will prevent a...

ALL MODELS: Cracked Plastics & Threaded Sleeves

Greetings: Some members of this Forum are riding scooters that have bodywork composed of Honda's best plastic that is over 25 years old. Not surprisingly the stuff gets brittle as it ages, and to make matters worse, the fit is tight and a Noob like myself might manhandle the stuff pulling it off. I ...

'87 Aero Center Panel + Skins

Greetings: Just another picture of the fabricated center panel with plastics mocked up: http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/2850/aerorearfsi4.jpg http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/aerorearfsi4.jpg/1/w640.png I could do a better job folding and molding. Have another Al. sheet to trace and try again... :)

Back In the Saddle Again

Greetings: I had a half-inch hole in the vinyl. P.O. probably used the saddle to hold his cigar in the workshop & let it burn. :( Duct tape kept the rain out of the foam temporarily but it sort of spoiled the look. I got a Vinyl Repair Kit by Prematex at Wal-Mart. It comes with 6 small tubs of d...

Online MotoMechanical Course

Greetings:

I spent a few minutes visiting Dan's Motorcycle Repair Course:

http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.htm

Lots and lots of Good Stuff in there for anyone wanting to learn to wrench on a Scooter. Throw a couple bucks at him to help maintain the site if you like.

Permatex Blues

Greetings:

Thanks for that. Googled Permatex. Just about everything they have is Blue - from threadlockers to RTV gasket substitutes. Which specific product did you mean?

I also Googled "Gasket Dressing" and will read more.

Scrubbing Scooter Scent Scourge: Plans B Through D

Greetings: Now, what have we learned about volatility , Class? Sorry you're going through this, especially since I was one of the ones who encouraged you to take Tomos inside. Always ready to make things right, I offer the following options: Plan B: Tell the family you're wearing an exciting new fra...

Re-Using Gaskets '87 Aero

Greetings: Aside from being a cheapskate, gasket sources for these 20+year-old scooters are dwindling. I know enough not to try to re-use a head gasket. There are other less heat-intense gaskets I would like to try to preserve if/when I disassemble. Examples include the reed block, rear tranny case ...

Little Bump?

Greetings: You mentioned hitting a bump. I surmise that you think this precipitated the "epic-style" failure. Do tell us more. If the scooter is where you left it, I'd try one more time to start it. Let it warm up 5 min. or more. If it won't, wheel it home and report your findings. I suspe...

Right On, Bra

Greetings: I'm glad you have this matter well in hand , with a firm grasp of the facts. Not to milk this dry, but I feel that it's important to keep a breast of what the kids are grappling with these days. OK, I'm out of sophomoric innuendo. (And out the other.) Fondly, Wheelman-111 PS: T.C. ...

Michigan Temps

Greetings: It may be difficult to get the scooter running well with standard carb jet, cooling and plug. The forced-air-cooled engine just can't reach operating temperature unless steps are taken to address this. You Forum members from the Great White North: what do you do if you want a winter Scoot...
