the magnets in the flywheel polarity may have gotten reversed. My father in law had to weld a part of a flywheel on a arctic cat sled and it went in reverse when he got it back together. it even started with the pull start and sounded completely normal

try a different flywheel

If the crank is turning the oil pump is flowing. The cable only increases the flow rate.

The square rod is what is rests against. Yours is probably bent. Make sure the stand is straight and not curved too.

Ok thanks guys. Maybe the headlight never worked. I only had it running for a short time before the reeds had a catastrophic failure.....due to a reed block issue

I've also changed the stator and flywheel since then. (both sa50)

Can I put some sort of rectifier or anything between the stator and headlight?

So that's why my tested headlight doesn't work on it. Thanks for the info. I'll definetly switch to a spree setup along with another headlight.
