Hot Wired Elite

Greetings: Hopefully your scooter's not HOT :o. It's possible the Previous Owner had a switch problem and chose the easy way out of it. It is possible to bypass both switches somewhere in the circuit. If you can locate the Service Manual for your model/year, look at the back of the book. There you w...

'87 Aero Tranny Dismantled, Awaiting Gears from Malossi

Greetings: After my purchase of a set of cool gear pullers from Harbor Freight Tools, I was disappointed. The large gear on the output shaft slid off the splines rather easily. :( Maybe I can still use the pullers to press the new one on? Q1: Naturally I lost track of the original gear orientation i...

CDI/VR & HD

Greetings: The Bear is correct of course. Scooter ignition is largely independent of the VR. Not so on other bikes. On Sportsters they are known to foster all species of E-gremlins. Vintage British bikes had a type of VR called a Ziener Diode. It was made by Joseph Lucas AKA The Prince of Darkness.

Hi-Po Scooter

Greetings:
And thanks! I thought I was going a bit overboard. Now I see my Aero is actually pretty tame. I'll see if the Polini has enough grunt to drive the gears. If not, either I'll switch back or build it up more. Who am I kidding! Anyone got a pipe for an Aero?:)

Voltage Regulator?

Greetings:

The service manual in tech. Documents describes testing the VR. If It's faulty it could cause other components to fail quickly.

Spider Silk & Switches

Greetings:

Don't knock spider silk! It's mostly what's holding Flash together! :)

I have not yet disassembled the controls but appreciate your tips. Got any pics of the process?

Float Needle&Itty-Bitty O-Ring Seat?

Greetings: Memory can be dangerous! I seem to recall maybe from rebuilding some snowmobile carb long ago, that the float needle engaged a teeny tiny O-ring as its seat. Since I have been struggling to identify the cause of a fuel leak recently, I have observed that my shiny new floatNeedle rests its...

New Parts

Greetings: Petcock's new, Bear. So's the float needle. I don't know any way to recondition the float needle seat, which is cast-in and non-replaceable. I I called Cowboy Honda and they initially tried to blame the user. The parts guy mumbled something about a "vacuum problem", but quickly ...

Pesky Persistent Fuel Leak

Greetings: Small puddle forms beneath scooter. neighbors unimpressed. Source appears to be air box, foam filter nicely saturated with oil from the premix, and providing an additional source of richness to the mixture as the gas evaporates into the intake stream. :) I believe all the connections are ...

World's Worst Scooter Mechanic? Me

Greetings: Update on horn issues. There was a spider's nest - I kid not - in the horn botton. Ha! Take a full stream of brake cleaner - Arachnid Scum!! Didn't help. The taillamp dims with horn button activation, but the silence is deafening. I think the Honda Honker has had it. It didn't help to be ...

Malossi PART NUMBER 67-6458

Greetings: Have you any way to check if you have this exact PART NUMBER ? What's your Aero setup and how's your takeoff/acceleration? Top speed? The seller says this gear set is 16/40, which works out to 7.08:1 total. Close but not quite the same as your observations. I feel it might be too tall eve...

Clutching Confusion

Greetings: There seems to be widespresd misunderstanding about the role of the big Center Spring between the driven pulley sheaves. I was confused myself because I grew up riding snowmobiles in the late 60s and 70s. In those primitive days, the clutch was mounted to the engine crank. Through a syste...
