Greetings:
Wheel-boy and I replaced the worn Metzeler M1 rear tire on Flash 9 Christmas eve. He's learning the basics, and how to cuss appropriately when wrangling the tire off and back on the rim, using rudimentary hand tools, sticks and stones. A good time was had by all. Merry Christmas!

Re: New to Spree, oil question
Greetings:
It probably would've seized by now without either premixed fuel or a working pump. It's been a while since I've ridden a pump-equipped bike, but from (Dim) recollection, you can fill the fuel tank a ton of times before the oil tank runs dry. (10? tanksful)

Re: New to Spree, oil question
Greetings: The brakes are operated by a steel cam that's embedded into the aluminum brake panel plate. Galvanic action causes corrosion betwixt. Remove the brake panels, tap (Might require Persuasion...) the cams out, clean with a wire brush and slather liberally with lithium grease, taking care tha...

Glad you got it running! I'd suggest you put your stock carb and all its parts in a can of Berryman's for a few months. It'll come out clean, and ready to replace the Clone carb when it fouls up...

Greetings: Welcome to Honda Spree. You have a rare and worthwhile project to begin with. Pics? (We like pics...) There is (was?) a Member who was making Reproduction stickers for any scooter Honda (and others?) made printed onto adhesive material. His post may be at the top of one of the Forum categ...

Re: Low compression
Greetings: Air entering the crankcase from ANYWHERE will mess with compression... A clean Clean CLEAN cylinder/case joint and base gasket is a must. Crank end seals let go occasionally after 25 years so need to check there as well. Air allowed to escape back into the intake through a faulty or broke...

You've worked hard. Nice. Can't wait to see it finished and painted.
On Elites, there are a couple of studs under the seat and another pair poking through the rear cover. Castle nuts over flat washers retain the rack.

Re: 1985 Spree - Carb not pulling vacuum
Greetings: If you can get it to run, spray brake or carb cleaner on all the junctions; airbox lid, airbox rubber to airbox and to carb, carb to manifold, and manifold to crankcase. If the idle speed changes, you have your leak. If idle speed stays constant, consider checking both crank seals for Uns...

Re: Air filter old or new slows top speed when on the Scooter
Greetings: Speed-"reading" has its drawbacks, sorry. Curious that the original filter performs so differently from the Non-Honda as well as the Honda replacements. Clearly the engine seems to "like" the leaner condition, suggesting that the main is too big with the new filter(s)....

Re: Air filter old or new slows top speed when on the Scooter
Greetings: Filters are made of some sort of plastic foam. I'm guessing polyurethane. As time passes, the "holes" in the material contract and the filter becomes more restrictive. This occurs even on the shelf of the parts warehouse. Eventually they go brittle and chunks break off. Anyway, ...

If the panels are missing, exactly what did he paint? Pics? A running scooter for $400 seems pretty reasonable, but will you want to be seen riding it Naked? Panels might be hard to procure.

Re: 85' Spree fires up then dies
Greetings: Rides like Nacho said bystarters can fail open or closed. Any thoughts? I have not heard of this. If the scooter runs frequently the fuel in the circuit will be liquid, and the slide will retract as soon as the element cools. Only gums up - in the "OPEN" position, after years of...
